Cork Ladies or Kilkenny Men ?

(Oldest Posts First)

Which is the strongest senior dynasty? Given the dominance of the Cork Ladies footballers and the Kilkenny Men hurlers ?
Does Cody have more work to do ?

Stupid post, the Kilkenny hurlers under Brian Cody are one of the greatest sporting teams ever, and they continuously bring hurling to a different level with the rest constantly playing catch up.

While Id pump for Kilkenny myself , what you've posted is rather daft as anything Coady has done Cork ladies have matched in the women's game like it or not .

It is a worthwile thread.

But do you take the Cork ladies record only as 10 out of 11 or do you compare their record to the years Cody has been in charge in Kilkenny. That would then be 10 out of 17 with cody & Kilkenny at 11 out of 17?

Kilkenny hurlers.

Nothing against Cork what they have achieved is remarkable and they are one of the greatest sports teams this country has produced but mens sport is much more difficult and competitive than womens sport and so Kilkenny's achivements should be considered greater.

Before people accuse me of my remark above being sexist it is based on personal experiennce where my sister who only started playing Rugby 2 years ago but this year has played for the Connacht Ladies team in the Womens Interprovincial competition. There is no way in hell that would happen in the mens game.

I think we can all agree that the Cork ladies football team are killing ladies football. It's become boring and predictable.

Given the choice I think I would get behind the Cork ladies myself.

When I seen the title of the thread I thought the question posed was going to be who would win a football match between the Cork Ladies team and the Kilkenny football team?

Which is the strongest senior dynasty ?. This is a ridiculous comparison as you are comparing apples with oranges.
If you are asking who has the better strike rate, clearly 10 titles out of 11 for Cork ladies is better than Kilkenny's 11 out of 16 (and 8 out of the last 10).
But you are comparing 2 different sports (Gaelic Football and hurling).
If you still want to compare you then have to try to look at each sport (Ladies Gaelic football and hurling) from point of view of participation levels, team preparation and spectator popularity.
And then if you even still want to compare you have to factor in the differences between men's sport and women's sport due to the physical differences between men and women. Through no fault of their own women are not as strong or coordinated as men and in order to precipitate in almost all sports they cannot play directly against men but have to set up their own competitions.
Again none of the above is to put women sports people down, I love watching many lower weight boxers even if I know that if you put them into a ring with a heavyweight boxer they would get a very bad beating.

Cork ladies achievement is just as god as what kilkenny hurlers have achieved. Suggesting that mens sport is harder is rather stupid as men compete against men and women compete against women. What the Cork ladies have achieved is heroic stuff and they will be remembered as history makers in years to come. Take a bow girls

But rebel trev, great and all as the Cork team's achievements are, would you not be concerned that they're destroying ladies football by winning every year?

Could we not say the same for Kilkenny in Senior Hurling? Its all about this era,,,,in twenty years time another county might be dominating. Same in the hurling.....Its up to other teams to reach there heights

Yeah Trev, I was only being facetious! It's a great achievement and if I was a player/coach with one of the other contender counties I'd want to, as another manager once said, "knock them off their fecking perch!" rather than whinge about them winning all the time!
