Annual Ticket Hysteria

(Oldest Posts First)

I had a debate about tickets last night with a relation of mine (a disappointed, ticket-less Mayo fan, living in Dublin).
He reckons I'm heartless and missing the point so I just wanted to get the general consensus from Hoganstand posters.

I never ceased to be amazed by the ticket hysteria that occurs once or twice a year - mostly generated by sensationalist newspaper headlines and radio phone ins. First up - I know that occasionally genuine fans miss out and that's unfortunate.
Secondly, not imposing a restriction on the number of tickets that individuals could purchase was a mistake - I'm optimistic that this won't happen again. I have no time for touts and refuse to pay over face value for a ticket.

So far this year I've been to 7 Louth games (5 league, 2 championship), the Ulster Final, the AI quarter finals and semi-finals.
The only sell out was the Dublin - Mayo semi-final game. I was at the Mayo-Donegal game - the upper tier looked empty. Similarly at the Dublin - Fermanagh game the place felt empty. Both these games were double headers. A lot of people seem to have come out of the woodwork since then.

I was going to unveil my ticket distribution masterplan, but then I remembered what's the point - it will only be required for 1 or 2 games a year!
To all those disappointed fans without a ticket - you can still enjoy the game and make an occasion of it!

The continent is facing a massive migration crisis (people risking death to enjoy the opportunities we take for granted) yet the front pages are about "Ticket Chaos" - the mind boggles........

Missing out on 70 minutes in Croke Park is the ultimate First World problem! Buy a few drinks, turn the phone off, put the volume up and enjoy the game!

Looks its the same in every sport when it comes to major finals. Remember the Meath fans standing on the roof of the Nally in 1996....christ the game would be halted these days on H&S grounds.

Fair point that there are more important things in life than a football match. But not many !It's fair to say that even if tickets are sold out there aren't enough names for all the seats yet. I'm hoping to get one before Saturday and if not I'll hit Drumcondra that afternoon hoping to locate one at face value. Plan B is to swell the ill-gotten gains of the don who controls the touts. Can't remember the year but it was a Waterford v Clare semi and I got a tour down below face-value for a ticket. Silly man touting tickets for a half full game ! As someone posted on another thread beware of anyone selling you a photocopied ticket. Could be hundreds of the same.

I don't have a Plan C.

Be careful who you buy from. Tickets.ie have sent out tickets in duplicate/triplicate so any touts that bought online have themselves an extra few tickets to sell but not all being sold will gain you access to the stadium. Be very wary.

Cheers Croigorm, will keep an eye out for that. I think they send out one ticket and there's a stub attached like a receipt. But probably unsuspecting fans have been caught out with them. I think the original once have a type of mettalic strip/barcode on them. If anyone has same ticket could they please confirm.

waynol totally agree - nothing beats being there.

All I'm trying to say is that its worth remembering that there was a crowd of 13,548 at the national league game between these two teams 5 months ago. The game was in Castlebar and obviously not everyone can travel to league games - but I'm just sayin!

Ultimately if more than 80,000 want to go then some people will be disappointed - c'est la vie.
The demand is only going to be worse for the final! and the same again next year

Anyway, best of luck to both teams (and the referee!)

Greenand Red, tickets.ie have confirmed that all sets of duplicated tickets are in fact real/original tickets. Whoever uses the ticket 1st will gain entry, any attempt to use the other copies (although they will be real tickets) will result in them being refused as the barcode will have already been scanned.

Cheers Croí. Surely tickets.ie know how many duplicates for tickets were sent out and could publish a list of barcodes? Probably wishful thinking. We could then check touts ticket barcode from that list to see if they were dodges.

You'd think there'd be some way around it wouldn't you? Like someone else said, cancel all tickets that were posted and re-issue them but that would be the sensible thing to do.

Granted anyone that has bought through tickets.ie will have had to include a postal address so if someone is refused they can take it further but there will be plenty out there that will take the risk to make a few bob.

I submitted a query to tickets.ie -
Can you please publish a list of barcodes for any duplicate/triplicate tickets sent, in error, to customers for next Saturday's All Ireland football semi final replay.

Many people, including myself, will be forced to buy tickets from touts. If some touts have these duplicate/triplicate tickets they can sell 2 or 3 copies of each and only the first ticket wil be valid. If we have a list if barcodes we can avoid buying these tickets.

I would appreciate a prompt reply.

Regards,
