End the black card farce!

(Oldest Posts First)

Please someone in the GAA come out and say this farcical rule is going to be consigned to the rubbish bin after this season ends.

It doesnt cut out cynical play at all, this summer has been one of the most cynical summers of football in living memory, it doesnt weaken the bigger teams at all, its so flawed it actually rewards cynical play in certain cases, its impossible to enforce and all in all has been a disaster.

Agree totally.

I'm a long time advocate for getting the black card out & the sin bin in. In my opinion if there was a Sin Bin for cynical play both Cillian O'Connor & Rory O'Carroll would have been binned yesterday.

The black card has worked to a certain degree.

I believe we should introduce a straight red card for denying a goal scoring chance though.

Macauley was harsh but Basticks trip was a stone wall black.

Nah the black card hasn't worked and like others I was against it from day one given the blatantly obvious problems it would lead to when you added referees interpretation in to it. I know this can be said of any card or decision by the ref but adding to the already tough job the refs do have was never a good idea in my opinion. I don't criticise referees for the sake of it but have seen a rapid decline in standards both at club and County level over the last few years and I think a major bearing in this is that there has been a bit of rule tinkering in this period. The confusion I have seen from refs at Club games over what is and isn't a black card or when a player can or can't come back on or what the distinction in this rule is for black carded Goalkeepers being replaced etc has shown that it hasn't worked.
