GAA providing excellent value for money

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I know this is the time of year when a lot of people complain about high all ireland final ticket prices and rightly so - but the Gaa have to be given massive credit in the pricing structure compared to other sports -are really get it right especially when it comes to kids

On friday i brought my 4 and 5 years to watch munster v connacht in a friendly- for the 3 of us going into the stand they were asking for €55. I ended up having to pay €35 to go to the terrace. The reason given for the high prices was that there was a sevens tournament on the same day (i was only going in for the connacht game) While i accept in hindsight i could have researched prices beforehand i didnt think it would be so high.

The following day the same three of us went to see limerick v galway under 21s. -€15 for the stand (kids went free) for a more high profile game and €10 for my dad (oap)

-for any games i have been too this year the kids usually were free or no more than €5 in the stand. Munster for the pro12 game v glasgow are chargin kids €7 for the terrace.

In summary fair dues to the gaa on this one - they are getting it right and hence attracting kids to our games

Great value until you have to go to a game in croke park. It is disgraceful the way croke park discriminate against children, oaps and student. Why are the only available seats to students and oaps always the poor seats at the corner of the cusack and behind the goal at the canal end. If you want to sit in the hogan you don't get a discount. Why should those who are less well off have to pay for the poor seats and not be allowed sit in decent seats. I think it's a disgrace

Completely agree. I have a season ticket and have worked out that between myself and my son (juvenile) we've paid the equivalent of €9.80 per game (each) since the league started and IF we get to the All Ireland Final even though I have to pay full whack for him it would work out at €15.40 each per game. A lot of people give out about the GAA but they really do offer good value for money, especially when you take into consideration the provincial/All Ireland series games can sometimes be triple headers.

Those prices were right for the rugby considering they were prices for 7/8 hours of action. There was some top class 7s rugby then a pre season game. what prices were you expecting if not 35€???? Under 21 all Ireland semi has completely different costs to a weekend 7s tournament..
€7 for a kids ticket is very good for pro sport game which has totally different costs to amateur sport.....

Putting student seats etc in those areas isn't discrimination. why should GAA have to give seats that are top seats to students/oaps?

GAA is excellent value in comparison to the other main sports.

I was the Tipp/Gal semi, Tyrone/Kerry and am going to the Dubs/Mayo game on Sunday. That's 3 of the biggest games of the year, with some minor matches thrown in all for only €75.

For most competitive soccer games in Lansdowne you'll be at least €50-€75 for one game.

Not sure about rugby matches but I believe it is even more expensive again for only one match.

GAA excellent value in comparison.

Croke Park is excellant value for kids - 5 Euro for a child and 1Euro if you are a part of a group.....

And 10 Euro for an adult this Sunday with a group adult pass - great value...

My son goes to all games, the most he ever has to pay is 5 Euro.... the Ireland v Wales game was 10 Euro in the Aviva in brutal seats

I have always maintained that GAA games are excellent value compared to any other sporting events. I live in Canada now where Ice Hockey is king. The cheapest tickets to a regular season NHL game are outrageously expensive and you will also be fleeced if you decide to buy a disgusting hot dog or a plastic cup of stale beer. If that's not enough, most regular season games are not all that important anyway and often the players just go through the motions and don't try all that hard. The play-offs are intense but if you are not a season-ticket holder, it is very hard to get a ticket and the touts charge hundreds of dollars above face value. I'm sure it is a similar story with other major league pro sports.

GAA has completely different costs so hard to compare.... GAA are not currently paying off build of their stadium, don't have to pay players.
The world cup warm up tickets vary from 15-60 euro with schoolboy/girl tickets ten euro.

Ormond we went in 5 mins before the senior game started so clearly we were not goin to attend the sevens - we were asked for €55 stand / €35 terrace. -they could have reduced prices for those going in just for the senior game

There was some top class 7s rugby then a pre season game.
-this was a sevens tournament involving club sides - not fiji or the all blacks

what prices were you expecting if not 35€????
I€15-€20 for a friendly for the 3 of us which for a friendly i dont view as being unreasonable. For Tipp v Limerick munster hurling this year a kids stand ticket was €5. €5 for stand ticket for limk v tipp is far better value for money than €7 in terrace for a pro12 game - bear in mind i am an avid follower of both.

While i accept that the pro game has to be paid for both Munster Rugby and the GAA have a duty to promote games by enticing people to bring their kids to the games and the GAA are for the most getting it right. Separately i bring the kids to lots of club hurling (our own club junior and senior championship) and rugby (AIL) - kids always free.

Which do you think was better value for money
€55 for munster v connacht friendly OR
€15 for Limerick v Galway 21s

There was 2700 at munster game and 7500 at under 21 semis - kids didnt get tickets so were probably not recorded.

Should people attending the Kilkenny galway all Ireland hurling final pay cheaper price if they only enter the ground for the senior game and not the minor gam which precedes it...
Your idea that you pay a cheaper price for only wanting to watch the full 15 a side game wouldn't work. Its unfeasible.
Just because the sides playing were club/invitational sides doesn't mean the 7s wasn't top class. The Fijian side that played the 7s are recognised as one of the best 7s sides in the world etc
Kids free at a club game whether hurling or rugby is entirely different to elite level sport.

Price is what we are comparing though. Not the financial situations that the three organisations have found themselves.

Regardless of the reasons behind the high ticket prices by both the IRFU and the FAI, the GAA's are excellently priced.

€30 for two quality games on Sunday and a wonderful view overlooking the halfway line.

To think how much I've coughed up to watch the Irish rugby team on occasion, the €90 for the French game in the 6 Nations a few years back was a joke...

So far this championship I've paid only €5 to see every Kerry game and got some great entertainment along the way.

Agree pricing structures need to be looked at. While GAA do wonders for providing clubs with adult and child tickets at a very low cost up to all-ireland semi final, asking people to cough up €80 for a ticket for a child under 12 or even 16 years of age for the AI Final is a joke. Why isnt there concessions on AI Final day? Aswell as that the concessions on any other day are a joke also. No concessions for terrace. No concessions for Hogan stand only Cusack. What difference of a person does it make a student or an OAP if they sit in Hogan or Cusack?

The reasons behind the ticket prices are what determine the prices so they can be compared. You have to look at the reasons why a price is at €x when comparing it to a different organisation pricing tickets at €y

Asking people to pay €80 or whatever tickets are priced at for a kid under 12 or 16 isn't a joke.
There shouldn't have to be concessions on AI final day as why would the GAA want to lose out on such a large income on its busiest days.

TO go to Munster schools junior cup final (had nephew playing) i was charged €20 (€10 for me and €5 each for my 4 and 5 year olds) -for an under 16 game, 4 days later the same three of us paid €10 to watch limerick v clare in NHL, kids of that age should be free to a schoolboy game, tenner for me is fair enough (was a cracking game)

To be fair to the GAA most of the time they get it right when it comes to pricing (however i was charged €8 to watch my club play county junior hurling quarter final last year, ) but most of the time they get it right.

Who do you think mostly attends schools matches??? It might as well be free for everyone if you don't charge the students. €3 or €5 will hardly break the bank. Jeez!

€15 for the two (hopefully) top quality matches in League Semi final on Sunday, €10 if your a student over 65.

Can't knock it in fairness.

Talk sense man. They can't satisfy demand for AI finals as it is, why would they give tickets away cheap?
