Croke Park Management in Stone Age

(Oldest Posts First)

Good to see "Limerick" bringing attention to Croke Park's clerical rigidity. This issue needs to be taken up and brought into public focus by all clubs in all counties in order to bring about change to the archaic and inflexible system which has been in SOP for decades and is perplexing why smart people allow it to continue.

The time to mobilise this call for change is the day after All-Ireland football final so there is plenty of time for debate before next season without disrupting current teams , players and preparations in current championship.

The GAA rank and file is a wonderful organization ,however, we seem sadly resigned to meekly accepting the status quo while palayers give blood , sweat and tears for the great game, week in and week out.
These young men and women who ply the game deserve better.

TIME FOR CHANGE IN CROKE PARK POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (We could call it Glasnost and Perestroika -GAA style)

LET THE DIALOGUE, DEBATE, BANTER BEGIN!

Where to start?

We could begin with scrapping the Waterford Crystal and other such farcical competiitons (at least the hurling ones) which begin in last two weeks of January-the worst possible time weather wise .
Then we could re examine a format/schedule where we have 4 competitions overlap in the same period , ie Waterford Crystal ,O'Byrne,McKenna Cups, etc the Fitzgibbon Cup , The All Ireland Club Championships, and the beginning of the League all converge simultaneously.
It was actually punitive this year where TJ Reid, Joey Holen , the Fennellys, Paudie O'Brien , Gavin O'Mahony or Graeme Mulcahy could not play for their respective counties because they were still in club championship. As it turned out The loss did not negatively impact Kilkenny as they won club and Ireland outright ,but the Limerick players could have had a major bearing in the counties League status for 2015 and 2016.

The Limerick Leader newspaper reports that last month's Central Council meeting saw Limerick propose a change to the top tier competition's structure for 2017, which would see a top flight of 14 teams split into two groups of seven.

It was understood that a number of new proposals were to be discussed at the meeting but delegates were then informed that a decision was to be made.

The Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) were in favour of the status quo remaining and when the management committee voted en-bloc they swayed the vote. <<<<

Limierick Chairman Hits Out http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=242581 I'm a proud Limerick supporter, but sometimes the antics of our county board make me cringe! The NHL, in its current form of 6 teams, is the best league we've ever had. There's very little between any of the teams, and every game is worth something. It's competitive, what the punter wants. Even Cody's mighty Cats came within a whisker of going down this year. I don't see Davy or Liam Dunne running to Croke Park with proposals to make life easier for them. Basically, if Limerick isn't good enough to fight its way out of Div 1b on its own two feet, it ain't good enough for anything better. More talking on the field please, in 2016, Mr. Mann!

When you say people deserve better what do you want?

Counties need games, competitive, before the league? Colleges need games before Fitzgibbon. Scrapping Waterford crystal etc would mean what exactly?
You don't need to re-examine scheduling? Why do you? Simply monitor which players are playing each competition to ensure no burnout. Nothing wrong with TJ Reid, Fennellys not playing league. Counties get to look at other options.

2 groups of 7 doesn't make sense and it didn't go through....

Dublin, Waterford and Cork all went down to 1B. They took their medicine and fought their way back up into 1A without complaining or asking for a restructure to suit them. What is it about Limerick that they think division one should be expanded to include them? Why cant they just do what other teams do and win their way up?

Dublin played in Thurles twice with two home draws against Munster opposition.....with Munster referees.

Think about it.
