GAA Myths -Top 3

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the nastiness surrounding recent fixtures and the cute hoor'ness that permeates through hoganstand, I was wondering about 3 GAA myths that each county supporter encounters on here/in boozers the length and breath of the country.

The only RULE is the myths can only be about your own county!!! Try not explain them!

1) Dublin get more funding from the GAA than anyone else

2) Referees favour Dublin

3) Dublin play in the weakest Province

2) Cavan play a blanket defence

3) Cavan people are mean. . I'll bet you my communion money you can't prove that one!

1) Dublin get more funding from the GAA than anyone else - They do aren't there 60 coaches for underage kids in Dublin and 2 in Cork

2) Referees favour Dublin - Referees don't. Joe McQuillan does and he referees most of Dublins matches (and their training matches too)

3) Dublin play in the weakest Province - Unfortunately (as I Meath man this hurts) leinster is by far and away the weakest province

1. Everyone in Kerry is GAA mad to the exclusion of all else (in a place like Castleisland, rugby gets a look in, as does basketball)
2. Every Kerry primary school has a pitch nearby (a four by four would do better on the field we played on)
3. Nobody in Kerry has mind for anything else but football during the summer (cows no longer need milking and harvests no longer need saving as they did... but... people do have lives to lead)

It's a game. Great craic for a while BUT life goes on. The captain of the Munster team to beat the All Blacks in the 70s didn't stay for the celebrations: his father died during the match. Perspective!

1). Louth is a Soccer County. Its not. It just has it's fair share of bar stool supporters which every county has them.
2). Drogheda and Dundalk don't get on. They do. They are just like a married couple who have their ups and downs.
3). Louth hate Meath. Wee dont. Wee love the Royals when they spend their hard earn cash in our pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants. Plus wee also look after them with houses, schools, jobs and women if they are badly stuck. Welcome to the Land of the Legends!

1 Jim mc Guinness was brought onto this planet with the sole aim of trying to destroy Gaelic football. ( I will admit it was awful to watch THAT semi final.

2 Martin mc Hugh is a good pundit.

3 we all farm sheep and have cottages by the sea. Real salt of the earth people.
