Such an overrated manager, no wonder they don't want him in Kerry.

I think it was time for him to go, did a great job for them and was given the opertunity to walk before he was pushed.

I don't have any inside story but I was sorry to see the man go.

Based on off the ball's coverage yesterday and also what I could dig out on twitter, he didn't feel he had the support of clubs so withdrew his name. It's a pity as he seems to have inspired great strides forward there.

mixed feelings in Roscommon on him, some felt he has done great work with getting us to Div 1, which he has. But on the other hand we have made little progress in the championship, the last three years we have gone out with a whimper considering how we have progressed in the league and the relative success we have had at u21 level. Finally I think the fact he has not addressed of defensive limitations has gone against him with many people. Personally would like to thank him for all his work, but think it was time for a new person to come in.

He got them promoted, league form can be confusing. Didn't see much from them.

A very good coach who is too defensive with the media if results are going against him. Has improved teams at club and county level and still has a lot to offer. Some county should get him for the coaching and leave the media stuff to someone else. Is McStay favourite for the Rossie hotseat ?

He probably would have just survived a club vote but was too risky to take a chance going to vote and losing as it would affect him getting a job in the future. I for one am disappointed as I know he had full support of the panel and a lot of them are devastated he is leaving. He done a lot for Roscommon football bringing us from D3 to D1 next year and had no luck in this years championship. We got robbed by referees in the games against Sligo(we didn't deserve to win anyway but that's beside the point) and against Fermanagh and riddled with injuries against Fermanagh a county of our size can only compete at the top level with a full pick and to be missing our full back,Midfielder,Wing Forward,Full and Corner Forward it was an achievement in itself to be competitive against Fermanagh.

The talk of McStay and Fergal O'Donnell taking over in joint management is doing the rounds and to be honest I think would be a step back in wrong direction. I want to wish John Evans the best in his future and I will always be grateful for the improvements he has made to Roscommon football after the disasters of Maughan, Carr , Fergal O'Donnell and Des Newton

well said Sepp - One can always tell a lot by the username they bestow upon themselves.. jez,…. Anyway John Evans is in my opinion very much under-rated. He applied for the Kerry hot seat around the 2007 mark I think but at that time Pat O'Shea was seen to be the best man for the job I assume on his professional qualification as a Munster Gaa GDA. Evans by all accounts had a blueprint mapping player and squad development from schools level upwards to senior on a progesssional scale, he took that same printout to Tipperary and one can clearly see the benefits of from Minor, to U21 and eventually to Senior in my opinion. He took the Rossies from Division 3 to Division 1. He is an extremely motivational figure and when he was always a good speaker within the schools level for parents and kids when he was stationed in Tralee. Personally I think he is very learned, very up to date game and tactically wise… but his main trait is belief and motivation… he won't be idle for long…

A part from being a motivational person, he is a very nice man. The best of luck to him going forward!

Think he did a great job with Roscommon but unfortunately he disengaged his brain a little recently when talking to the media. Coming out in public and saying that Roscommon would win a senior All Ireland in the next few years was foolish in the extreme and left him a hostage to fortune. No doubt it galvanised Sligo who would have taken great pleasure in bringing the Rossies back to earth, but saying what he said and then going on to lose to 2 of the weaker counties in football made a joke of it all.

I think we done a good job overall...getting Roscommon from Division 3 to 1. Championship not so good for them and the only downfall was his comments about All Ireland's etc...learn to walk before you run springs to mind.

Well Horse, isn't it all about the Championship, especially in Kerry? He has failed in the Championship with both Tipp and Roscommon.

Not all managers have the luxury of the volume of players at his disposal like counties like Dublin, Or and Unlimited budget due to sponsorship and money from headquarters or most importantly get to play all games at home. I for one am extremely disappointed he has decided to step down

Such an overrated manager, no wonder they don't want him in Kerry.

Sepp ease up on the lemons.

He managed Laune Rangers to three Munster Senior Club Championships
He managed Laune Rangers to All Ireland Club Champions (Their first and only)
He managed Tipp to a Munster U21 Champions (Their first at the time)
He brought Tipp Senior football team from Div 4 to Div 2 (Winning Div 3 during this time. It was Tipps first ever league title)
He brought Rossies Senior football team from Div 3 to Div 1 (Winning Div 3 and Div 2. It was Rossies first league title since the 70s)

Not bad for an overrated manager.
