"Haven't been tested" "undercooked" "blanket" "2 tier championship" "the big 4"

I am sick of hearing the same thing over and over from every pundit and journo.. particularly about the championship structure.. Nobody cared about the "weaker counties" when Kerry/Dublin were sauntering to AI finals in the 70s and early 80s. Instead they were lauded with "Kerry Golden Years" and "Decade of the Dubs" videos made to celebrate them.

Personally I'd love to see one of the media outlets have a 'man off the street' type section, with 5 minutes of the show dedicated to what an ordinary punter thinks. This person could be a club player, might not be a player just a fan, anything to get away from the insular and boring world of 'punditry' that exists today with everyone saying the same thing.

I think it would shake things up and would get rid of these buzz words you speak of.

'The system'

Doesn't matter if two teams set up very differently in terms of tactics, if they are seen as being defensive they both use 'the system'.

Offside those three words go hand in hand and probably describe everything that's gone wrong in our game!

Was a writer who worked in the Meath Chronicle back in the 70s and 80s who loved to describe games using the words Curates Egg ie good in patches. Same guy was fond of the term Minor when it was a point and Major for a goal.

Colm Parkinson on Newstalk has been good in this regard. Highlighting the fact that "blanket defence" and defensive system" are lazy terms. There's a lot of different systems used by different sides.

1. Down to the wire. (Joanne Cantwell's favourite.) 2. The first half was even, the second half was even worse (Pat Spillane). 3. Lateral passing of the ball. (Des Cahill) 4. The short whistle. (Marty Morrissey.)

It's just the nature of the media and a major part of the public they are reaching out to.
