Reading yet another article about a dual player who cannot commit to both codes. In places like Derry and Mayo the Football pull affects the hurling teams and vis versa in KK and Tipp. DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 09/07/2015 10:08:43 1750298 Link 0 |
This is it! Longford have done brilliantly to reach the Leinster Minor Football Final this Sunday. 6 of the panel are dual players &, with them, we have a tasty minor hurling team. Will we get to see them play any hurling or not now? That's the question. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 09/07/2015 14:13:08 1750479 Link 0 |
an interesting footnote to this debate, up to 3 or so years ago, in most counties the "dual player" when asked to choose, chose hurling. There seems to be a swing the other way these days, sometimes in very surprising circumstances. Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 09/07/2015 14:26:32 1750490 Link 0 |
Must be a way to give the player both options. Its not like the players dont want to play both but rather it can simply be too time consuming or against the will of one manager DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 09/07/2015 14:47:04 1750502 Link 0 |
Donal Og commented on this last year on the Sunday game. His view was very simple. If a player wants to perform at his optimum then he must commit to one sport. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 09/07/2015 15:18:19 1750531 Link 0 |
Cahir Healy Portlaoise choose hurling over the footbaĺl this season and last as he wanted to see how good he could get at the hurling. As a young fella he would always grab a hurl and sliotar going out. Hurling was his first love but most critics would say he was the better footballer. Always did well against any Dublin footballer he was marking. crikey (Australia) - Posts: 355 - 09/07/2015 17:13:01 1750623 Link 0 |
