Should Donal Og apologise

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Seems the umpire and ref were right all along. Should Donal Og apologise and retract his criticism?

A better question is should all umpires go on strike until RTE provide a better standard of pundit who will correctly assess the decisions they make and respect the job they do for very little reward? There is afterall a precedent of players striking for better conditions, can't remember who lead that though.

Have to agree Soma. You live by the sword, you die by it. He seems to want it every way.

Where has it been shown that they got the call right?

And they could add in a retraction segment in The Sunday Game where pundits got their calls wrong on players diving, seemingly poor refereeing decisions, managers being over-dramatic about decisions after games ???!!!!!

Pundits, refs, umpires, managers, players make wrong calls from time to time but don't need to go around apologizing for it. That's life.

Yeah it's happened before lads the camera angles on Joe Sheridans goal in 2010 were all wrong too, made it look like it wasn't legal at all :-) Donal Og should be apologising every week for that hair cut and his varied array of dickie bows and dodgy suits but yes he should at least acknowledge the fact that the goal was legal next time he's on and credit the officials concerned

ah lads hold on.donal og was only going on what was on the video.he seen what we all seen.it looked wide and the freeze frame seemed to indicate it was wide.incredibly it wasnt,it was a legitimate goal.but what was he supposed to do?make no comment?im sure 99.99%(the 0.01 being the umpire goalie and scorer!) of people thought his comments were correct.and im sure he will have no problem in retracting them.and it wont be humble pie..we shud all be eating it so if thats the case..

I have video footage taken from the Hogan Stand on the old RCA VHS video camera of the 1989 Final which clearly shows that 4 goals and 7 points given as scores for Tipp were actually not scores at all. We were robbed I tells ya!

Goal line technology has to come in next!!!

We are all eating pie and if a certain Carlow poster has his way we will all have to write to the umpire and Paul Browne to apologize and say we were wrong!!

Disgraceful stuff from us all to doubt that umpire!!!Not even 10 Hail Mary's will set us free from this one!!!

I say give that umpire the umpire of the year award!!!!

In fairness, this has now moved on to the standard of punditry and editing by RTE. Not sure if Cusack is to blame as he may not have been involved in the editing of the highlights. Think the Sunday Game will acknowledge their error though.

Yes he should apologise, but still, it looks pretty clear from the freeze frame that the sliotar went outside the post.
Was the video manipulated or something? I dont understand how it could have been a goal from looking at the freeze frame.
