Is beating Dublin bigger than winning Sam?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just wondering cause I know how much it means for a county to come to Croke Park and beat The Dubs is that actually better/bigger than winning Sam?? I know Mayo 06 made a DVD out of the semi final even doh they lost the final , also lads can't forgive themselves for missing games against Dublin that there county won , also every book I read from past players is all about beating Dublin and how great that was, so as I've said is beating Dublin better/bigger than winning Sam?

What a silly thread......... If you think the highlight of a footballers life is to beat Dublin and not win an AI then I think your living in the clouds my friend, I can tell you from very recent experiences of beating Dublin last year came nowhere near to winning it in 2012, not within an asses roar, yes it was a brilliant day and win especially under the circumstances but the reality of it is that there was no silver wear at the end of it so cannot be compared to actually lifting Sam.........

Yes! I was lucky enough to be in college down the sticks. We were bad at the time, we'd win Leinster and get beat well by the better teams. Let me tell you how the rest LOVE when we fail. Its almost like they want us to lose more than they want their own team to win.

Interesting story, met a Donegal boy earlier this year after a game. H3 interrupted a conversation to tell us how we were put in our place last year. I thanked him for his contribution and asked what trophy Donegal had won for beating Dublin.

I won't lie. From my own experience seeing Donegal beating Dublin so comprehensively last summer was one of the best days I ever had supporting Donegal.
We were lucky as fans I suppose that even though we'd only ever been to two All Ireland finals, we managed to win them both.
Last September of course we experienced the other end of the spectrum and I can honestly say that that 6 hour journey home afterwards was the worst ever. While the victory over Dublin was nice it didn't make up for the utter disappointment of that defeat.

Is there anything worse than a Dub full of his own self importance.

No Mayo didn't make a DVD. Anyway what good is a DVD to us when we are only getting used to these dammed VHS tape recorders.

In short NO. While beating the 5 in a row team in last years semi-final will live long in the memory, it is utterly eclipsed by 1992 and 2012 and brining Sam back to the hills. Give us a shout the nezt time you have a team gonig for 5 in a row mind you.

Mayo might have made a DVD after the 06 semi but the look on the faces on the Hill as McDonald's winner sailed over the bar was priceless.

Technically Dublin made that DVD as it was an RTe Donnybrook production ! I have one but they never put the analysis on it. I remember being in The Cusack that day thinking, initially, "Unreal. We're gonna beat the Dubs in Croke Park". But on the final whistle I honestly thought it wasn't a great Dublin team and moving Shane Ryan to defence, then taking him off wasn't too smart. I was at the first game in '85 and that was a quality Dublin team. Wasn't there in 2012 but that was a good Dublin team.Never having seen us lift Sam I'd say that it's only a consolation prize if you beat the Dubs but lose the All Ireland. Granted it's not a serious question at all at all!

I am sure Donegal would have preferred SAM last year rather than just being DUBS killers

What an idiotic thread! Imagine a Kerryman posting a thread like this? No chance.
Yes JayP a lot of 'neutrals' love to see the Dubs getting beaten but the reason for that can is the likes of Clondalkin and his silly posts.
Modesty just doesn't come naturally to ye City boys.

Old steteotypes die hard with threads like this.I would imagine most Dubs on here would be disappointed in it.

If Kildare beat Dublin Sunday it would be one of the biggest shocks in recent football history, but bringing Sam back to Kildare could never be beaten (and probably wont happen for a very long time too)
