Why is it always the corner forward fault?

(Oldest Posts First)

Folks we were playing a league match the other night and were getting beat by 20 points at half time. The managers takes off the 2 corner forwards and kept 1-12 intact. What does always happening? ?I see this happen with a couple junior even inter teams

Always happnens!

We were playing a couple of weeks ago. I was full back and we were hammering the other team. 3 balls came into the full forward line, all of them easy for us defenders and we dealt with them with no problem. As in the forwards made the run and then the ball was just lobbed in over their heads!

At half time none of their full forward line re-emerged for the 2nd half! Apparently those lads were the reason we were 14 points up at HT!

A clear sign a team management hasn't got a clue and is certainly not up to the job, no wonder lads walk away.

As a corner forward myself, it's something that often irks me. The full forward line is the one sector of the team which is entirely dependent on receiving good quality ball from other parts of the field: you're too far down the pitch to win breaking ball, so if your team struggles in the middle, you're not going to see much possession close to goal. Ditto if you're a nippy corner forward who's getting ball lashed over your head all the time.

I think that as it's difficult to replace midfielders, coaches often take off the no.13 or 15 as an easy option. Doesn't make much sense to me, especially in these times of massed defences/ counterattacking.

Always seems to be the easy but shortsighted option. Was often victim of that policy myself.

Probably the easiest option to blame. If you're not getting the scores and are trailing its always going to be the forwards who are getting called ashore.Corner forwards probably have the most difficult chances for scores and if you miss one or two you will have a manager getting edgy and doesn't want to be blamed for leaving someone on the field when he will be asked afterwards why he do didn't change your man.

As a corner forward I was always replaced.I requested a move to halfback and was a fixture after that.

Yeah always happens and can be frustrating for the corner forward, because he may not see the ball for 20mins,then he might get one chance and snatch at it knowing he will be coming off soon.

Also as a corner forward, the amount of times,ya are in space and have a great chance for a goal, but don't receive the pass is amazing.

Absolutely-fellas bursting through the centre for goal often get tunnel vision. Corner backs dragging you out to the sideline from kickouts is another one that gets my goat- they've no chance of getting the ball, but you still have to follow them!

There was a corner back in Limerick who would greet the corner forwards with lines like:

You're going to get taken off or carried off - your choice

Did you say goodbye to your mother this morning? Cos you might not see her again.

Away from the pitch, the nicest bloke you could meet :-)

He was a reason many corner forwards got taken off.

Always happens in our club, when I was playing years ago I was fullback and marking an opponent who was at least 8 ft talk and cleaned me every time but I was left on, our goalie couldn't save a huge beachball he spent more time smoking that watching the game, he was left on, our midfielders couldn't catch a cold but were left on, the managers son was 1 corner forward he was left on but the other corner forward who got most of our scores was always taken off, he missed 2 games due to injury, we didn't get a score for those 2 games and yet the management team couldn't see the faults, when the management left at the end of the year a few players took over for the next season the same panel of lads stayed on and after rejigging the team and moving lads to different positions we won a few titles, proves the point nobody wants to wear the corner forward jerseys
