"I don't know what's happening to Meath football"

Does Martin McHugh ever get sick of slating us? Not once did he mention in his 'article' the fact we had 6 new starters and lost 4 of our best players to injury. He puts the boot in at every opportunity and I hope he gets to eat his words come the 12th of July.

Lol ignore McHugh remember his county is competing fot the All Ireland. He would like nothing more than Meath to beat Dublin. All mind games.

McHugh isn't worth listening to. It amazes me he gets so much airtime. Most of what he says is incoherent rambling nonsense.

I wouldn't be too worried, he used to spend most of his time sneering at Mayo, he must have got bored of that, remember this lad once made a stupid statement on The Gooch, he loves the sound of his own voice. 12th of July? I like your confidence considering how average Meath are at the moment!

McHugh talks some boloney but nothing wrong with waht he has said there.

Lets face it, Meath are a brutal side, and dublin WILL mop th floor with them if they meet.

Ha! Martin McHugh is a joke of a pundit.

Can't believe people actually pay him to "write" for a paper as well as spew incoherent nonsense on TV.

It's baffling! He hasn't got a clue about anything!

From a netural standpoint i dont see much wrong with what he said.

Sure your own manager said "It's a good score line: 2-19 is good but we're a little bit disappointed with what we conceded, to be honest, at crucial moments in the game so we've plenty to work on.

"We'll take a lot from it, we've a lot of reviewing to do as well, because it wouldn't be good enough the next day.

I thought Meath win win by 12+ considering wicklow finished bottom of the league.

"I don't know what's happening in Meath football," McHugh said. "They're a big county, they've a big population, and everything else. True in my opinion aswell.

I do also agree you will need alot more to get past Westmeath or Dublin.

It looks like your own managment was harsher in its analysis than he was!!!

His comments seemed fair from what Ive saw of the match but I admit I didnt see it all. Seems like this is a case of a wee chip on the shoulder?!?

Did he not know Meath Won. Wicklow are also a big County ,always put up a good show in the Championship and are seldom on the receiving end of big beatings. There was nonsense criticism of them before the match, Those pundits now feel they have to justify themselves by running down Meath. Expect more drivel like this from the clueless.

I don't have much of a problem with his comments, sounds similar to comments Meath fans make to each other after a lot of match in recent years. We should be doing much better, we have a lot of clubs and a big pick of players, little in the way of competion from rival sports compared to other counties, big population (big increase in last 15/20 years) and have a big football tradation. The team yesterday was down a lot of men but Wicklow finished joint bottom of division 4 so expected a much easier win.

???

Laois put 21 past them in 2014 and they were knocked by Sligo. Year before Armagh beat the 2-21 to 2 points. A big county???

So far this year they have been beaten by Waterford,Offaly,Longford,DIT,Wexford,Antrim AND London although the draw with carlow, beating Carlow IT and beating Leitrim by a point where highlights im sure. Big county ha ha

It isn't just Meath, all Leinster counties with the obvious exception of Dublin, need funding to make the province competitive again.

In fairness, Meath have been on a downward spiral for a long time so Wicklow getting close isn't a huge surprise.
They are a mid tier county.

People say they are one of the traditional counties but are they? They only had 3 All Irelands in the first 100 odd years up until 1987. They had very good teams from 1986 - 1999, but that is only a small window to be one of the top teams.

Not having a go but are they over hyped and made up to be something they're not?

It confuses me how teams around Dublin are failing so bad. Ye have excellent resources, close to employment, close to education. For instance in my county, Mayo, half the team either work or are studying in Dublin. Meath need to get back to the top they are missed.. Both Meath and Galway are required at the top table.

i think martin mchugh is still hurting from the all ireland semi final in 1990, meath thought them a lesson and him and his brother were both taken off, he was destroyed by martin oconnell i think. meath won 3-09 to 1-07

Typically analysis by the media, Wicklow were suppose to turn up yesterday and be hammered so that the media could continue with their discussion about having a two tier system. At the current rate, there are about 5-6 teams that are capable of winning the All Ireland and the rest including Meath are making up the numbers so what do they propose a competition for the All Ireland with 5-6 teams and a second tier competition for the rest. Dublin are the only team in Leinster capable of winning the All Ireland, I wish the people doing the analysis would do so on the basis of what is actually happening on the field as oppose to what teams are involved - it appears to be ok when weaker counties are hammered, as they can be slated but when it is put up to a so called bigger county, there hasn't to be something wrong with the bigger 'traditional' county, it is the same old story trotted out every year.
