Keelan Sexton, Clare

(Oldest Posts First)

Keelan Sexton from Clare has played Munster senior, u21 and minor football championship this year, is that a record for a player to play in all 3 grades in the one season?

I could be wrong but I think Paddy McBrearty did the same.

Peter Cunningham - Offaly 2012
Niall McNamee - Offaly 2003
Donie Brennan - Laois 2003
Ryan Burns - Louth either 2013/2014
Michael Murphy - Donegal 2007

These just off the top of my head

I think it's policy with a lot of counties not to play minors in under 21. In 2012 we had Ian fahy, Stephen o brien and Philip quirke who all played minor and senior but not under 21. They were all good enough for 21s but wouldn't want to burn them out doing too much too soon. Colin o Riordan was the same. I'm sure this happens in a lot of other counties too.

90% sure Colm Bradley done the same in 99. Came on in the senior game after playing in the minor game. I'd imagine he played under 21 the same year.

Not even the first in Clare David Connole done it maybe 7 years ago. No where to be seen now mind with injuries cutting his career short

Cian Mackey did it in Cavan in 2005 I think it was.

Maybe someone an help me out here but did Gene Cusack play and win minor and senior Ulster finals on the same day for Cavan in the 60s?

Frank McGuigan won Ulster minor & U21 medals in 1972, also came on as a sub in the senior final defeat to Donegal.

I think, but only think no facts, that the great Padraig Brogan played for St. Jarlaths up to a colleges final and also played Mayo minor, U21 and senior in the same year. Can anyone confirm this? I rememver talk of him burning out too young when he started playing senior for Mayo.

Yeah Stephen Lucey played rugby with Bective. His dad was a rugby man from Cork. No GAA in his family at all. He could never specialise in one position. 2007 final v kilkenny I remember the first 5 mins. Limerick played great afterwards and kilkennys fullback ought to have been sent off aswell as their corner foward. But hey that doesn't happen. .too clever for that

Ken McGrath made championship debut against Tipp in 96. Also played minor & U-21 that year. Not a Waterford man, but awful pity he never won an All Ireland.
