Absolutely gutted.

This man was extremely talented. He is best remembered for being able to get Dubphy, Giles & Brady to argue over the size of a euro coin, but the soccer show masked his genius at times. He had a way of drawing debate out of panels he worked with. He loved sport. He made people feel at home and even for that 'Ciao Roma' episode after we beat Romania on pennos in the 1990 World Cup where Bill was wearing a clapping hat and saying Home & away and Alf were no deferred, well we have just lost a great.

I was genuinely moved when I heard of his passing as a great man of Irish sport has left us but we have great memories of him and his brilliance.

To his family, friends & colleagues, truly sorry to hear of this man's death.

Bill never actually retired.
He still was involved in his PR firm and listening to an interview on Red FM in Cork a few weeks ago he seemed open to other avenues on tv.

An absolute legend of a man who will be sadly missed by sports enthusiasts all across the country.
He was some broadcaster and it hard to imagine sport on RTE without him.

Seemingly he co-presented the very first episode of The Sunday Game, so it is more than valid to post about him here. Shocked and genuinely sad to hear of his passing. The word legend has lost all true value in the modern age such is the frivolity of it being used to label anyone, but if there was ever a time to use it again, it's for this man.

A real talent has been lost today, rest in peace Billo.
