Player of the year?

(Oldest Posts First)

Who do ye fancy will have a big year?
Kevin breslin of the galway Independent wrote that paddy McBrearty is 66/1. Im off to the bookies.
He was my choice even before i read that article.
A real leader, a tough young man and a big strong skillful footballer.
Its his fourth year now and even though hes been around for a while, I think hes ready to really announce himself as a game changing footballer.
Any other candidates?

66/1 is very generous alright, was very impressed with him in the League this year.

Kieran Donaghy in at 50/1 might be worth a few quid.

Simple formula
Pick who you feel will win the All Ireland
Pick from outfield players .
Do not pick corner backs .
Pick a media friendly face .
Someone who has not won before .
If there is a come back story , a sob story all the better .

Karl Lacey taking a career break to concentrate solely on Donegal football can only be a good thing for us! Throw in the fact that he might not have too many years at the top left along with 80/1 odds!

For top scorer get on Dean Rock - was 4's yesterday, into 10/3 now!

Kieran Donaghey might be a one trick pony, but I have to admit it's a great trick.

Without him Kerry are lost & I would have him in a heartbeat.

My vote goes to him.

If Cian O'Sullivan makes the 6 jersey his own for Dublin I don't think he is a bad bet at 80/1

Other then that Dermo or David Moran.

Kerry or Dublin to win it for any of these to happen.

Unless it's Keith Higgins (If you are mad enough to think Mayo will win it)
Does that rule Dermo out? Some sections of the media love a bad boy :)

yeah if Kerry or Dublin don't win it I can't see any of their players getting it - because it is so likely someone has inspired an "underdog" to victory. I agree with the pick the champions and then pick a forward of prominent name. .

Dublin - Connolly, Kilkenny (will he play at FF throughout?)
Kerry - Moran, Donaghy (would love to see the Gooch get it)
Donegal - Murphy (even if McBrearty plays well, Murphy is the heartbeat of everything Donegal do. it is more likely a good corner back can keep McBrearty quiet than anyone keeping Murphy quiet)
Mayo - Cillian O'Connor (his scoring rate means that if Mayo finally do it he has a great chance), Aidan O'Shea, Keith Higgins

Outsiders: Colm O'Neill, Conor McManus (Their respective teams would have to make the final)
