Whatever happened to Seanie Johnston?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Posters whatever happened to Seanie Johnston? Anyone know if he's still playing or even in the country? Surely Cavan could do with him or even Armagh seen as his old manager is at the helm?

I'd say if yous get him a flat in Clondalkin he'll line out for Towers man!

He'll even play junior hurling if yous play the electric bill!

They were talking about him over on the Cavan forum yesterday or today, apparently he had an operation on his ankle and can't train until June

Entered inter county oblivion and being honest I have little sympathy for him, the stunt of playing him in a hurling match the evening before Meath v Kildare in 2012 to make him eligible was one of the low points of recent years and was certainly distracting and detrimental to Kildare, Cavan appear to have no interest in bringing him back and I'm not surprised given the lengths he went too to leave them.

I heard that he has teamed up with Cavans Turlock Mooney and Kevin O'Brien of Dublin in a bakery venture - any truth in the rumour mill?

nailed it Richieq though he was awarded MOM in last years county final, a very odd decision which left a lot of heads being scratched around the Park considering his underwhelming performance on the day....

I understand how some Cavan GAA people might have it in for him but he is an amateur sportsman and surely he should be considered if he is good enough. OK, I don't know how good he is playing at the minute but I'd imagine if he did get a call up to the senior side he'd bust a gut to show he knows it was a silly mistake which has really only cost him in the end.
Surely he'd want to make amends if given an opportunity.

At the time I was one of them having a laugh at Seanie Johnston's expense.

But looking back at it now he was really hung out to dry by the Kildare County Board and Mcgeeney.
he was foolish and sold false gold to tog out with the hurlers.
he obviously thought he was going to be a major player with Kildare which never materialised.

he is a classy footballer who would stand out at club level but prob lacks that extra something to be a really good intercounty forward.

pity he didnt bust a gut when he was on the squad and none of this would be a topic of conversation.

Think he burned out from playing all the hurling and all the commuting from Cavan to training/matches in Kildare??

Dubhlinn too much water under the bridge, he went to extraordinary lengths to get away from Cavan, now granted i believe he was easily lead and that person is far more to blame than seannie, it still would be very hard for Cavan to have him back, this guy lined out against them in a qualifier ffs. The most important thing for a county player Imo is that he will die for the jersey, when you take off the jersey throw it up and stamp on it into the mud, then im afraid there is no way back, amateur or not.

It absolutely would be hard to have him back royaldunne and I know the GAA in particular would be a prime example of one county only in the blood. I just think Cavan could benefit if he is good enough especially if it helped them lift an ulster title. Perhaps it's more than some could stomach though.

Ye I agree royaldunne, I'd struggle to have him back as well, now I'm not one to hold grudges, to be honest grudges are too much effort if nothing else but I wouldn't trust Johnson to give his all for Cavan. I don't think he has anywhere near the heart or dedication for them and no county team needs that no matter how talented the player and in fairness he's a good player but no more than that.

Terry Hyland has said when asked about Johnson that any player who is playing well will be considered.
Johnson will always be playing as well if not better than 95% of forwards on the Cavan club scene.
Does this mean he has been considered but not selected? It would seem so. .

As for Woops suggesting that he may not be top intercounty standard, he certainly is on his day (he kicked 0-09 off Graham Canty) but his attitude in the past has seen this type of performance happen all too inconsistently.

But an interesting HYPOTHETICAL question for all Cavan supporters -

If it guaranteed us winning the Ulster title, would you have him back? I would.

(note: it wouldn't guarantee **** all so I wouldn't)

When Cavan win number 40 it will be with a panel of players all giving 100% all pulling in the one direction and all prepared to sarcrafice their own ego for the sake of the squad....hence SJ will hardly feature

thought we'd established that the next title won't be number 40. . .?
