Inter-county Minor Football Championship 2015

Hard luck to the Waterford minors. Limerick overturned a half-time 8 point deficit to win by a point. Limerick will take on Clare next week, with the winner advancing to take on Tipperary in the semi-final.

Bad evening for Limerick tonight. Can't have any complaints as Clare march on to take on Tipperary. The championship has it's quirks but it is good that all teams are guaranteed at least 2 games.

One year Cork beat Kerry. Cork then lost to Tipperary in a semi-final. Kerry went through the Munster back-door route and made the provincial final. Kerry won it that year. Had they lost to Tipperary in that final however, they would have had a second chance while their early round victors Cork were already out. Them's the breaks I suppose and the luck of the draw at times.

see that's the thing (at both minor and senior level). .

it's not the same competition! (well it is but it isn't, if that makes sense)

The GAA is over 100 years old and back when it started out, it made perfect sense for each province to play its own championship (in whatever way it saw fit) and crown a provincial champion who would then compete against the 3 other provincial champions for the All-Ireland title. The reason it made sense was cost, travel distances, etc.

I believe when the qualifiers were introduced at senior level, the GAA made a faux pas by not restructuring the provincial system. It does not integrate into the All-Ireland system in a fair manner. The same goes (although to a lesser extent) for the minor championship.
