Want to ask the general Gaelic football public a question. footballingman (Westmeath) - Posts: 27 - 10/04/2015 18:36:55 1712846 Link 0 |
I remember Trevor very well and he was excellent. Another unique player. Should he be mentioned in the same breath as great players of the same era like Maurice Fitz? Probably not, but certainly in the chasing pack! realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 10/04/2015 18:57:31 1712853 Link 0 |
Was a very good playmaker in the Brian Dooher mould.Good freetaker too. I think injures caught up him, probably retired when he was 27/28. HughHunt24 (Cork) - Posts: 841 - 10/04/2015 18:58:19 1712854 Link 0 |
Often underrated by some, but that is purely jealousy by other people. He was better than majority of those included in teams of all time. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/04/2015 19:06:53 1712857 Link 0 |
Wouldn't agree that jealousy would be involved RD, Trevor was highly respected, why would people be jealous? realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 10/04/2015 19:13:46 1712860 Link 0 |
Made the Meath team of the nineties tick, gifted player that was not afraid of hard graft. Also a modest gentleman. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2142 - 10/04/2015 19:16:50 1712862 Link 0 |
Smashing footballer no doubt. His career seemed to be short but a quick search suggests that he was in the Meath panel for 11 years 94-05. I know that he suffered a lot with injury but no doubt he was a lovely footballer. Always dreaded hearing his name come out ahead of a clash with the dubs. In modern day terms I would compare him to an Alan Brogan, lovely passer of the ball and well able to take a point. Nice fella off the park too, met him in Navan once. He was the playmaker in that Meath team. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/04/2015 20:08:40 1712874 Link 0 |
Fantastic player and seemingly a gentleman to boot. I would go as far as to say that his deadball ability was the difference between the sides in the 1996 final, especially given the travails that Maurice Sheridan suffered the second day out. As an opposition fan you'd dread any placed ball from the 45m in with Giles around, no matter what the angle. Though I do remember Meath missing a penalty in the 2001 final, I think that could have been Ollie Murphy. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 10/04/2015 20:34:20 1712880 Link 0 |
I want get involved with you and the West RD :D but we had no problem here in Dublin with him other than he was too good at what he did. Listen, football has changed and it ain't gonna reverse overnight, I always said we'd have the best rugby team in the world if it wasn't for the GAA :D realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 10/04/2015 20:39:48 1712883 Link 0 |
my favorite player of all-time,the best kick-passer of all football I have ever seen. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 10/04/2015 20:46:46 1712884 Link 0 |
One of our greatest footballers, one of the country's greatest footballers, possessed a fantastic footballing brain allowing him to read and anticipate moves in a game brilliantly. Left the county scene all to early but had suffered from some bad injuries which took their toll. His sleeveless performances of 1999 will live long in the memory. Definitely comfortable and deserving of being named in the category of great players of any era I would think. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 11/04/2015 09:21:28 1712910 Link 0 |
Super footballer and was such an integral part of the meath team at the time. Great freetaker but as someone said earlier his biggest ability was his role as a playmaker! 1 DUBJOHN (Dublin) - Posts: 932 - 11/04/2015 10:59:17 1712926 Link 0 |

It was a visual aid to identify him as the playmaker, made him that bit more recognisable to other players when they looked up the field.... Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 11/04/2015 11:47:40 1712940 Link 0 |

IMO a fantastic player , certainly a player youd be jealous of not having on your side , as allready said his reading of the game and abilty to create time for himself was top class , been racking my brain to think if theres anyone around that plays with a similar style , ABrogan the closest I can think of .
