Most scenic GAA pitches

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was taking a few pictures of the club's ground/pitch for a website and it got me thinking. Must be some very scenic pitches around the country, would be interesting to see pictures from some of them.

Watched a game in Achill Sound last year against a stunning background. Also saw pictures of that pitch on Inishturk.

Anyone any contenders for most scenic pitch in the country?

The pitch on Inis Oírr is petty special. Kilcar in Donegal is very nice also.

County-wise, The O' Raghallaigh's ground in Drogheda has a grass hill behindds the goals, which lends ambience if nothing else.

Belmullet's pitch overlooks the Atlantic coast and even has some palm trees alongside it, or at least it did when I last played there. Overseas, there's a lovely pitch in Luxembourg which is carved into the middle of a valley, with lovely green hills surrounding it.

Any contenders for the least scenic surrounds of any county pitch? Croke Park would have to be up there (around Buckingham Street). Always thought passing by that Tuam Stadium wasn't the most attractive either, wasn't part of it eventually condemned?

Newgbridge is not too bad if you can ignore your immediate surroundings and from a Kildare perspective what's been happening on the pitch lately and enjoy the view of the Wicklow Mountains!

Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney is the nicest county ground in my opinion.

In terms of club pitches - Dromid Pearses and Derrynane (not sure if that club is still on the go) (both Kerry) are in great locations.

In Cork, Adrigole, Urhan and Garnish pitches are all in very nice spots.

Up around the Glens you have Ballycastle, Cushendun, Glenravel, Glenariffe all of which are in nice locations with good surroundings. Probably left out some too.

What would be the most northern, southern, eastern and western pitches in the country? If I had a stab of the most central I would go for brigids in Rossieland. Also throw in what is the most highest?
