Offaly beat Limerick

(Oldest Posts First)

Delighted for Brian Whelahan & the Offaly hurlers who have received so much bashing for a long time.

Fairly patronizing post to be honest.Their in the same division of the league so Offaly should be capable of beating them.Great result but I woulddn't be getting carried away with it.

Dead right keeper good win for Offaly , especially for a team that have been struggling for such a long time. Limerick are a championship team they will come good when Munster championship starts and the league won't matter one bit.

Patronising??? Get over yourself! I grew up watching Offaly hurlers defy the odds during the 80's & 90's & would love to see them back at the top table again. Many would've seen this as a poison chalice for Whelahan, a man who owes the county nothing.

Antrim are also in the same division as limerick and I would be over the moon if we could beat them, nothing patronising in the opening post whatsoever

Am I being a tad paranoid? If any other team had lost after having a man sent off are 1 minute would people not be talking about Offaly beating a 14 man Cork, or Tipp or Kilkenny. Just seems too many out there want to put boot in.

Fair play to offaly but it was a win in a meaningless enough aul match. Id say like all counties they'd take a win in the a Summer over a win in March.

DF no one is putting the boot in, think after last year everyone expected Limerick to come out and show intent for the year ahead and blow teams away in 1B and get up.

Sure was it Offaly fault that Limerick were reduced to 14 men? They could only beat what was in front of them , its up to Limerick to control their own discipline on the field, shit happens deal with it .

It is only Offaly's 2nd win in the league. They just about beat a 14 man Laois team also. And Laois missed 2 penalties. Always have great respect for Limerick, and Offaly need to improve a lot more before they are on a par with Limerick.

Offaly beat a team who played with 14 men for almost the entire match so although it's a good result I am not sure people should be reading much into it and giving the team a huge amount of praise for achieving a victory in the match.

The reason I said the opening post is patronizing is because I don't think such a result merits a whole thread and a load of praise .If you can't beat a team playing with 14 men for the whole match who are in your own division who you've done pretty well against over the last few years in the league then your in really bad shape.

I am not saying it was Offalys fault and I am certainly not blaming anyone bar Dowling but all day long people have posted and not once have I seen reference to the fact that Limerick played the entire game with 14 men.

I am certain that if we were talking about any other county the 14 man element would have been referred to somewhere. I actually think it is patronising to Offaly to say well done on beating 14 men. Would they not be expected to beat 14 men?

As a hurling man who wants to see as many counties as possible play the game I wouldnt be so much happy for Offaly as relieved that they didnt lose to 14 men. That would really have been hard to come back from.

Well it just secures Offaly place in the division so I'm sure they are just relieved to be safe and not heading into a relegation play off like last , how are you so sure Limerick would have played much better with the 15? Did Offaly not draw with Limerick last year in the league I could be wrong . I wouldn't be over worried about whatever anyone else says about Tipp or Kilkenny , Limerick will always be able to compete with the big boys come championship , Offaly have had a terrible 10 or 12 years no harm letting them enjoy a win like this .

uibhfhaili1986,no offence but i think offaly should really take this victory and build on it.we all want to see a competitive offaly team!as for limerick, yet again they shoot themselves in the foot!
love how limerick play down promotion but we will gladly welcome the top sides to wexford park next year if we can do a number on waterford next weekend!

Good win but realistically will it have any baring come championship. Limerick are still a top 6 team, Offaly need a big championship scalp to establish themselves. I seen offaly last year in Nowlan Park, it was scary how superior Kilkenny where to them. Small bit a progress but Limerick arent really a league team judging by the last few seasons

It was a good win for Offaly, relegation threat eased, and a possible q/final spot up for grabs. Good to read the positive comments from other counties about Offaly. In their heyday Offaly proved that there is talent and skill outside the big three. Antrim next Sunday away, another difficult game.
Hopefully we can get a result there. Next Sunday will decide the promotion spot.

A great win to give some confidence to the players. Going through a rough patch so every win is important. It's amazing how much some Limerick fans were blowing Limerick up and now it looks like another year in 1b because the league doesn't really matter. Waterford v Wexford will be a tough with whoever wins getting promoted. I would expect Waterford to win by a couple of points in an explosive game. It was be some achievement for Wexford to go up though.

DF, against 14 or 15 men is irrelevant. Offaly won the game and for that they should be congratulated.

14 men didnt stop Clare from beating Dublin the other day.
