What do people think about this situation in Clare? Davy Fitz has a lot to answer for, treatment these players got should not happen in this day and age.

Davy Fitz's 'Punishments'

What do we think of this story? Personally I agree with disciplinary measures when rules are broken - but Davy's measures do seem quite severe. Opinions??

The behaviour described constitutes abuse and/or bullying.

Does not appeared to have been handled well at all. Could Davy's position be under threat? Buckets of talent in Clare but are they are in Danger of becoming a lost generation with all that u-21 talent?

The one Id blame is the trainer who saw them drinking and told them he would report them to Davy. By bringing it to his attention he may have been put in a position where he had to act or else be seen as having lost control of the dressing room. We are given one side of the story here -- there may well be another side. In every inter-county panel issues like this arise. Tyrone and Donegal footballers have had players walk off/dismissed from their panels recently. When teams are winning these kind of issues are forgotten about...when teams are losing they are magnified. If Clare get a couple of wins under their belt and make an impact in the championship this bust up may only be given a footnote at the end of the year.

Very dirty , very public , not sitting on the fence but theres always two sides , O Hallaroan has gotten his retaliation in first , if they beat the Dubs no big deal , lose to the blues and this one grows legs , game has taken on a whole new level of importance .

cant understand why the guy would be punished in the first place
he was injured for one
wasnt even drinking for two
whats the difference in him going to the cinema or going to a night club if hes not drinking
would this discipline have happened if he went cinema?
I actually seen davy in a cinema in limerick one night after a championship match that day clare had
maybe I should inform clare county board

Yeah, what a little child the trainer is - "im afraid im going to have to inform the management that you are in a public place and not drinking." The though5t of it!!

I cant understand Davey on this. They should be getting kudos for not gargling whilst being injured. Where does he want them to go on a friday night, to the library? I think its none of his business what they do iuf it doesnt affect their performance. These amateur playeres are expected to live more strictly than professional sportsmen, but with none of the benefits

A bit over the top even for Davy.

I believe this piece is based on an interview with one of the national papers!

There's the side of the young lad who has walked off the panel, there's the side of the guy who makes a living from writing lines of interest.

Love or hate Davy - some of the words used here are disappointing, especially when we haven't heard a word from the Clare camp, and I don't really expect we ever will for obvious reasons

Think it shows how backwards hurling is and in particular "hurling men"
Time to move into the 21st century.

I see nothing wrong with it. Liam griffin sacked Liam dunne as captain for playing a club game.
The current Wexford panel had to adhere to a Christmas dinner calorie count. This is what the winners are doing. If you want to catch the pack you have to make sacrifices. The career is short? Would you rather retire as a loser or a winner? If you don't like it play Sunday league soccer. Going behind his manager's back to a paper is not the way to go about this situation. Plenty of lads dying for his jersey.

Telling a player he cannot wear the same gear, must train alone and may not even speak with his teammates is humiliating and is not right. Every squad has disciplinary rules. They may be doing some extra training when everyone is finished, being dropped for a game or period of time, even being dropped from the panel. These are appropriate. As Doylerwex said, Liam Dunne himself was stripped of the captaincy in 1996. A legitimate measure.

But rules like the ones being enforced in Clare, from what O'Halloran has described, are abuse and bullying. They are totally inappropriate for dealing with men playing a sport. It doesn't matter if everyone agreed to them at the start or not. Telling a player he may not talk to his teammates and his teammates may not talk to him is totally inappropriate. Rules like that are humiliating and an abuse of power.

Icehonesty when did he say they couldn't talk to their team mates?

He made them train alone and get changed in a different dressing room yes. He didn't include them in match day squads. But he didn't say "no one is allowed to talk to them" by the way I am disappointed in this, not really sure what to say. I know Nicky O'Connell well enough, he is a great lad and a top player. I'm gutted he won't be involved.

how come the trainer who was out in the nightclub hasnt got any punishment ?
wouldnt he have had a bigger involvement in the clare set up for the galway game than two injured players?
