Should Sky go for the National Leagues

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I hate watching the national league on TG4, can't understand a word they're saying. Why can't RTE show the games, would love to see sky get all the national league games, they could promote it into a serious competition and at least i could understand the language they're speaking.

Besides Tinrlan..., I mean whatsgoingon, you can still enjoy a match without understanding the commentators.
Its up to the GAA managers and players themselves to promote the league into a serious competition. Not even a behemoth like SKY can promote a competition without the assistance of the protagonists.

i dont understand why rte dont have it n not put bigger effort into it cause the viewership on tg4 is very strong and would be good on rte...its quite confusing

if you need somebody to tell you what your looking at then learn some irish
most people can watch a match and dont need anybody to make their mind up on what their looking at for them
you must have been lost if you ever attended a game as you wouldnt have a commentary at all

I think it could be great for sky to he honest. They'd have to give out free tickets to fill up the stands and the brits wouldn't see the difference in the intensity. Right idea

setanta coverage is woeful i have to say
you need to mute it as guys commentating are drole and you cannot her the atmosphere in the ground as sound quality is very bad

Sky wouldn't be interest, as most teams couldn't give a damn so why should they. The current Sky experiment, and it is an experiment, is not designed or intended for such a meaningless competition. Its in a very save pair of hands with TG4, as is the club championship.

Personally I'm more than happy with rte or setanta, as a matter of interest who made the first move,
did sky approach the gaa or did the gaa approach sky not that it matters either way it was a bad move.

yeah the extra games in it i think would be ideal for sky and add to the package they already have..i find it hard to believe that its all that expensive..and would probably be a solid ratings draw in time

I suppose if Sky are prepared to go for the Pro12 then it is possible that they could show interest in the National League at some stage. Regularly the teams fielded in the Pro12 are very weak with players being minded for bigger competitions. The examiner said 4,000 people watched Munster v Cardiff in Cork on Saturday night while nearly 9000 went to Cork vs Kilkenny. The GAA games on Tg4 usually pull bigger viewership than the Pro12 games too. Who know's what might happen down the line.

I'd like if TV3 showed a few games. I am reasonably handy at irish I still find myself translating in my head when watching on TG4 and not enjoying the game as much as I would if it had english commentary.

It would be very harsh on TG4 if they were to lose the games though. They have done some service to the GAA over the years. Apart altogether from the live games they have had All Ireland Gold, GAA sna 70's/80's, the great Laochra Gael and not to mention all and highlights packages.

When you go to a match you don't expect commentary and can enjoy it well enough so why does it matter when you're watching it as gaelige! Should be grateful to see it at all!! Some people just can't be pleased.

Dear god Tir Conaill Abu did you get out of the wrong side of the leaba ar maidin??
Sure there is no harm in expressing a preference a preference for commentary in a persons first language. We all agree its great to have the games televised.
