Yes, get down to your club and get yourself elected and off you go

in Cavan we have a stupid league system where 2 leagues run side by side - one counts for promotion/relegation and the other for a league title - the latter to allow games to be played without clubs with county players being penalised.
At the county board meeting the clubs voted against it but as the cb votes counted for 2 it was over ruled.
So whats the point ??

get elected to what if county boards have no effective say on things at Congress how many elections do you have to go through to actually have a say in this GAA??

The question is did the grass roots ever really have control of the GAA? I don't think so. In the GAA like any hierarchical organisation the power is concentrated at the very top. Occasionally they will consult the "lower orders" or strata to make tem feel that they are part of the decision making process. Maybe some would view this is an over cynical outlook and that the GAA is truly democratic. Maybe slightly democratic would be appropriate.

I don't think that is what they were proposing. they were proposing that every game that sky were showing should also be available on terrestial TV. so no games exclusive to SKY.

to be honest I think the gaa has enough to be doing without some of these micky mouse proposals
like some people must have nothing better to be doing then looking to change every single thing in the gaa
heres a list of the the proposals that will be discussed
like look at this one
Motion 6 (Clare): To increase the diameter size of the sliotar to 85-88mm (from 69-72mm) and the mass to 150-160mm (from 110-120mm), thereby reducing the likely travel distance.
heres alink to the rest of the proposals

The Sky deal was sold to the GAA support in Ireland as a positive thing

To grow our games abroad, and allow more Irish people to watch our games overseas

What actually happened is that the viewing figure's are a fraction of the size they used to be on Irish Television

Meaning less Irish people are now watching our games

Sky have demoted our games to one of their throw away channels, where they also broadcast things like skate boarding, and have spent very little in terms of production. It's bog standard in fact for such a massive media giant. It's paper thin.. as we say in the bizz

TV3 had a far more expansive production

So really all that has happened is that the GAA got more money off Sky

It's not promoting our games abroad, it's not reaching more Irish people.

It's simply performing the role of reducing drop off in the Irish Market when the soccer season finishes on Sky sports

That's it... it's there to hold subscriptions - Sky don't care about the promotion of the games in my opinion.

It sickens me that our amateur sport is now under the wing of a corporation like FOX...

Check out Fox News in the States...

They are profiting from our games now... :(

How about your fulltime employment? If they said do your job, but don't take the wages you have earned, would you? That is effectively what people are asking sky to do when they ask them to go to the trouble of covering the games and then not charging for it.

Motion 5 (Tipperary): To play extra-time in all championship matches, not just All-Ireland qualifiers, thereby reducing the need for replays. ( I know for a fact my own club proposed this one and it went before the county executive )

If were not playing Kilkenny in extra time or a replay we should win!!!

jimbodub has hit the nail on the head, the SKY deal was sold as being for good for the GAA as more people abroad could see the games. What about people in Ireland who do not have Sky? Surely if they were only concerned with the market abraod, then why award Sky exlusive rights to the games they are showing. Sky could show the games abroad, RTE or TV3 could show the same games in Ireland.

Motion 13 (Cavan / Tyrone/ Fermanagh/ North US Board): To allow for a player who receives a serious blow to the head, and a suspected concussion, be replaced by a temporary substitution - similar to the blood sub rule - with that player only returning to the field if the suspected concussion proves negative.

I mean for heaven's sake, what are they thinking of. It's bad enought with teams exploiting the blood sub rule without having another situation for a "suspected" concussion. at least you can see blood. just use your allocation of subs. otherwise unscrupulous managers and physios will be abusing this rule too.

some other proposals are OK, like the one about extra-time in all championship games. and the use of county grounds for other sports. i mean if its good enough for Croke Park it should be good enough for every ground.
