GAA Stabbing

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Its quiet sad that in 2015 people can't walk the streets without fear of being attacked. Its sicken that a man is attacked for wearing a gaa jersey its people like this that cause hatred to bubble and it shouldn't be tolerated on any level in society. Its quiet sicken to think that in Ireland in this day and age people discriminate and attack people for their faith and beliefs. The Gaa should stand in solidarity with the victims of such crime. Be it on the streets or on the football field. Can't be aided or abetted by Anybody. This is the second act of sectarianism to be highlighted in the Belfast papers this week. Both incidents are directly or indirectly linked to the gaa.

I hope Conor makes a speedy recovery and it doesn't cause any longer term damage. Hope the thug who was behind this attack is found and gets proper justice served on him.

The attack happened a stone's throw from my front door. Suprising to me because there are people of all ages wearing GAA clothes all the time in the general area, and I haven't heard of any threats or attacks since the 90's. I admit to looking up and down the street before I emerged with my kit while I still played for my club, but never once got any grief myself.

The student area of the Ormeau Road is a dodgey spot with Annadale, Donegal Road and Sandy Row close by. I would advise anyone walking towards the city centre to be careful what they wear, the student area itself is fine but cavemen do exsist not too far from there unfortunately. All the best to Conor Lynch, hope he makes a full recovery.

horrendous. need to be careful where we wear our gear. i have a few friends from typically protestant unionist areas and they love supporting down and would go to the matches with me. they have said they would never wear a down top in their own area as they would get stick over it. parts of the 6 counties are still in the stone ages. sad really

Unfortunately its not just the 6 Counties which are in the stone ages but we can't talk about that.... ;-)

I hope the fella makes a full recovery.

Unfortunately as we've seen all over some types of people only need an excuse and a target.

Meh, Pure speculation.

The victim is coming to a conclusion that may be false.

If the attacker was arrested and admitted that was the reason why, we could get ourselves worked up about it.

But for all we know, the fact he was wearing Tyrone gear may have just been a coincidence.

Wishing the dude a speedy recovery nonetheless.

Could put your theory to the test waynoi - come you up in your Dublin top and we'll give you a list of areas to walk through. I will walk through the same areas in my normal clothes a few minutes after and lets see if there is any difference to the reaction we get.

waynoI, grab a copy of the irish news, itll shed a little light on your random attack theory.

We used to get our minibus stoned regularly when we were younger coming from the west heading to cherryvale pitches.

Annadale flats and that area of ormeau embankment are areas that never were GAA friendly and never will be.

However, there is a certain amount of naivety at times iro students from outside belfast wearing their tops in 'iffy' areas, though it obviously doesnt justify what happened.

Wayno, it is hardly rocket science to deduce that someone in that part of Belfast who was attacked while wearing a Tyrone jersey was attacked for that reason!

I wonder is it connected to the fact that Alan Davidson from Ballymena has decided to leave Ballymena and play football? I have heard that attracted some disparaging comments and annoyance. I assume by his name that Davidson is from other tradtition? Anyone know wh he plays with and if he has county ambitions?

Well, given I wasn't making any accusations but merely asking did anyone know anything more than what has been reported nationwide I wouldn't go as far as mccarthyism. I am sure there was enough evidence for the decision to be taken that was taken at the time but as it cannot be discussed who really knows.

Send Wayno down the Shankhill Road with his Jackeen top. He would feel at home.

hurlingdub, he plays for bredagh according to the irish news, originally from Warrenpoint i think it said.

Bredagh would play their matches at cherryvale pitches which is close by to the incident but i doubt the neanderthal had that as a motivating factor tbh

Bumpernut - Aye, there's students wearing GAA shirts walking up Tate's avenue. That is asking for trouble if you ask me. They need to develop a bit more wit when it comes to these things. Sad but true.

Hurlingdub - Here's the article about Davidson [url=]http://www.hoganstand.com/down/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=230611

Terrible attack shouldn't have happened, same with the young lad in Dublin while back in rangers top. Shouldn't have happened either. Cave men are everywhere

Its not ignorance at all. This guy doesnt know for sure if he was attacked cause of the clothes he was wearing, Did the attacker tell him this ? If he didnt, its speculation. End of story. It could quite conceivably have just been a completely random attack on someone wearing a GAA jersey in a loyalist area to be fair.

True, its possible. But its not certain that thats the reason he was attacked either.

The guy didnt deserve what happened him, But you would also have to question the mindset of someone who would walk into "that part of belfast" in a GAA jersey in the first place.

I know it's 2015 and he shouldnt have to hide the jersey.. But there are mental people caught in the stoneage still and even i can tell ye that and i dont live anywhere near the place.
