Shane Curran

(Oldest Posts First)

Was disappointed to hear last Sunday could have being Shane Currans final game, what a servant to the game. I remember his playing day with Roscommon, top class. In my opinion he has being the best keeper over the last fifteen year and a much better shot stopper than Cluxten any day. His kick outs are still sublime and he has really set the bar high for the younger counterparts throughout the country, Paul Durcan really should take a look at his technique. One of the great characters of the game and undoubtedly one of the finest keepers we've seen but at the age of 44 maybe now is the right time for a legend to retire from the game.

Sorry with Flaker here.. an intercounty player, yes which makes him an above average Club player.. not the greatest keeper by any means, Erratic, Eccentric but an entertainer I suppose... but yes a good keeper but not the best

The man was a good keeper end of story. THe fact he was a total header gave him a higher profile than most goalkeepers of similar standard.

A real shame if he does retire, seeing Cake out on the 45 shouting up the field, going on his mad runs, it's worth the price of a ticket by itself! He still hasn't lost the passion but he looked out of sorts against Ballintubber last weekend, kick outs were all over the place. It won't be the last we see of him as he'll surely have a fairly successful media career after this.

Why would Durcan need to look at his technique? He is a two time All Star.

Decent keeper and good enough character. To put him on Cluxton's level is just laughable though!

I remember being at a league game versus Roscommon in Ballybofey 10/12 years ago on a wet miserable day and Curran lit up the place. After taking a few shoulders up to the Donegal 50 yard line he wound up the crowd the whole way back. Did the heart good

He said on the wireless on Saturday that he switched from Castlerea to Brigids after he got married. I'm assuming Mrs Cake is from Brigids parish and he moved there?

I agree with tirawleybaron - he was a good keeper but it was his other "antics" that built up his reputation, not his performances. His media work has also begun to become tiresome, repeating the same topics the whole time, would like to hear his opinion on topics beyond Roscommon for a change

Curran had a ton of heart and passion. Even to the point that his legs were injured and he had to be dragged off the pitch in the 2013 Connacht Club Final.

I would have to disagree seanros i think his antics covered the fact that he was a good goalie. Although i think Rossieblue went a bit overboard.
