Less division 1 counties in Leinster and Connaught

(Oldest Posts First)

Is it a cause of concern for these provinces to have only one county each in division 1? Mayo have been the only team in the division since Galway's relegation in '11. The capital as we know are dominating Leinster. Munster was the only province with all division 1 final. Ulster's finalists were division 2 finalists. With 4 Ulster counties in division 1 next year and the losers on the tougher side going to the opposite side of the draw to their provincial finalists, Ulster could be looking at at least 4 All-Ireland quarter-finalists. Two of those could be lined up to take on Mayo and the capital in the quarter-finals.

Does been in division 1 make any difference to how a county is going to in the championship, look at Derry good in the league, poor in the championship. If you compare Munster to Connacht, Connacht has more teams in the top 2 division then Munster.

The majority of the Munster counties never appear in Division 1.

Division 1 counties tend to win the All-Ireland. Mayo went out to a division 1 team. Cork lost to two division 1 teams. Donegal while beating Derry eventually lost out to a Division 1 opponent. With the competitiveness of Ulster, Division 1 football possibly isn't too important up there but it still seems to be the division to be in to make a good tilt at winning an All-Ireland.

5 of the 8 teams in Division 1 last year legend were knocked out of the championship by sides outside Division 1. It seems to be more important to be a dour, defensive side with little respect for the beauty of the game to win on the big day in September than to be in the top division, Kerry are my tip to win Sam again next year.

The All-Ireland winner more often than not will come from Division 1. Donegal performed the best of a county outside of division 1. They were on an upward curve though with promotion from Division 2 and they had been in Division 1 in recent years.

Armagh were one team that impressed upon exit from championship. Can they mount a challenge starting from Division 3? Put it thus way - I doubt anyone will want to draw them in the quarter-finals.
