A great servant to Donegal.A unfortunate error today for Kerry second goal but he still should be All Star as had a great season. Gael85 (Dublin) - Posts: 1433 - 21/09/2014 17:28:03 1654528 Link 0 |
Imagine his pain it must be incredible, you have to feel for the man. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4896 - 21/09/2014 18:13:04 1654574 Link 0 |
I disagree. A massive howler like that should really take Durcan off the All Star list, it cost his team in the end. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9702 - 21/09/2014 18:16:56 1654581 Link 0 |
It was a bad mistake by Durcan, but it didn't exactly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for Donegal. It was emblematic of their generally lethargic and sloppy performance throughout the game. Have to feel sorry for him, but I don't personally feel he's the reason they lost the match. The team as a collective did not reach anywhere near the intensity of their performance against Dublin. Everything that could have went wrong for him did.. Just one of those days. The best keeper we've ever had, can't imagine how he feels right now HandballRef (Donegal) - Posts: 520 - 21/09/2014 18:28:15 1654595 Link 0 |

Good keeper, big mistake today, but in no way should that detract from the fine season he had. Any keeper in fairly unique position that a mistake generally leads to goal, still would regard him as best keeper this year. RoyalRooney (Meath) - Posts: 50 - 21/09/2014 18:43:30 1654615 Link 0 |
Lucky not to have conceded another howler from the long kick that went just wide. Miler (Mayo) - Posts: 1015 - 21/09/2014 18:44:31 1654620 Link 0 |
Don't know how he could get an All Star MonaghanGlory (Monaghan) - Posts: 738 - 21/09/2014 18:46:14 1654623 Link 0 |
Donegal got away with some very short kickouts, one being collected inside their 20M line, this one they didn't get away with. For those short kicks you have to get them 100% right othewise they go badly wrong, its a high risk game and Donegal lost. Can't blame the goalkeeper really as its the system. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1804 - 21/09/2014 18:50:08 1654631 Link 0 |

Cluxton let 5 in against a average meath side and still got the most undeserving all star. Durcan best keeper of year and should still get his rightful all star. foreverroyal (Meath) - Posts: 349 - 21/09/2014 19:05:19 1654652 Link 0 |
The short kickout is one of the many factors that help to produce the style of puke football we had to endure today. How fitting that the game was decided by a complete breakdown of this brilliant tactical strategy. Gaillimh_Abu (Galway) - Posts: 996 - 21/09/2014 19:06:09 1654653 Link 0 |
He might still get the AllStar because there's no other obvious candidate. You can't be sure that it cost Donegal the game as they did respond to get within a point afterwards but it certainly had a major bearing on the outcome. He was struggling all the way through with his kickouts though. Former_Poster (Meath) - Posts: 394 - 21/09/2014 19:51:14 1654740 Link 0 |
A joke if he gets an allstar - he lost the biggest game possible with his carelessness. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 21/09/2014 21:46:06 1654928 Link 0 |
Ok firstly Paul Durkin is still the best keeper in Ireland so does deserve his All Star. dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 22/09/2014 08:15:12 1654943 Link 0 |
I've a lot of sympathy for Durcan and that may still get him the All-Star. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 22/09/2014 08:31:44 1654948 Link 0 |

Feel sorry for the chap, hopefully he can get over it, but the mistake was of such gravity that it actually warrants costing him an All-Star. In fact, I cannot recall a worse mistake in an All-Ireland Final, football or hurling. I recall a mix-up between the Cork goalie and full-back which gifted Donaghy (again!) with a goal in the 2007 Cork-Kerry final but I think Kerry had that game sewn up at that stage. This was worse as it was only a 1 point game when it happened. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 22/09/2014 08:48:31 1654957 Link 0 |
