Refused Blood Sub

(Oldest Posts First)

What's your views on this subject. Cormac Reilly refused o Shea blood sub entry until the 49th minute. Is Reilly a medical practitioner or was it just another blunder (may I add to both Kerry and mayo) to add to his list on Saturday ..I am referring to John Fogarty's article in the examiner on Monday last

I'd be more worried about the state O Shea was in. He admitted in an interview last night he doesn't really remember the incident, he was not himself when he came back on that's for sure. More concussion questions to be asked?

My guess is that it was a blunder - It sounded like only one blood sub slot was given and when O connor went back on that was the blood sub used - so the delay seems to be they then needed to make O shea a regular subsitution.

I dont know the rules on this (can there only be one blood sub? or is there a time limit ?) but clearly O connor and O shea should both have been allowed to have blood subs

True enough...I agree whole heartedly. But if he's standing on the line ready to come back in why was he refused. And yes I do know the seriousness of concussion and secondary concussion but if medical staff were happy to reintroduce him what was cormac Reilly at? And I do know The seriousness of concussion. I listened to that sad case of the young Belfast boy on rte 1 radio on Monday but my case is if medical staff were happy ....what was the problem

I agree with everything you said and he should have been allowed back on in relation to the blood. I was just making the side point that clearly he wasn't ok to go back on. I would presume the medical staff were not expecting him to be on the radio 3 days after stating he doesn't remember going back on!!

we're coming very close to having a serious incident as a result of concussed players being allowed to continue playing in inter co games - happened in last years AI also. Do the medical staff not realise that their duty of care is to their players first and foremost and not to winning the game at all costs.

Your right but I'm sure the counties would get a medic that would allow a player to go on instead of one that said no.
