Mayo v Kerry Semi Final Replay - Limerick Sat 30th

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very excited for this. We're long over due a big AI match down the country. I know the GAA only did it because of the American football but this should be done more often. Will the capacity of the grounds be 49,000 or is there a reduced capacity now due to health and safety?

The match will throw in at 4.30pm. Would have preferred a 6 or 7pm throw in myself.

Jack Goff, if it was Dubs in replay it would be in Round Towers and Dublin players would be on 10k bonus just for turning up.

Life is, like soooooooo unfair.

gaa shooting themselves in the foot here
and disrespectful to the players on both sides
game should be played the day before the all ireland hurling final
you had 52 thousand today with the rail strike on causing less to travel
you would have got around 60 thousand in croker the day before hurling final
and could have had a deal for supporters who already had hurling final tickets bought
that they could have made around 10 thousand tickets at half priceto get them to go to the football
to insure a close to full house both days
but an american football match that nobody will now buy tickets for because they will watch this on tv takes pride of place
bad planning here

Don't know how it's not on in thurles, Limerick borders kerry, has a smaller capacity and thurles best pitch in the country outside croke park. Also imagine they couldn't fix it for croke park the day before the hurling as that would be kept free on case dubs and donegal draw

Why couldn't the replay be in Croke Park on Saturday week?

I'm all for quarter-finals in provincial grounds but not an All-Ireland semi-final. Disgraceful that other sports are being played in Croke Park during the business end of the championship. Is the Sky money not enough for the GAA? Terrible decision.

"and disrespectful to the players on both sides" what about the hurlers playing in the AI the following day. CP is a great sod but its September and anything could happen with the weather, having a good sod is far more important to the hurling boys than football so yes the right decision is not to play the game before the Hurling AI.

On a more serious note, Croke Park obviously were gambling on there being no replay! Croke Park was built to play gaelic games. Not for circuses.

The question is will the Ticket prices be any cheaper or will the GAA charge Croke Park prices for the Gaelic Grounds.

game isn't on in Thurles because Limerick is more accesible travelling from Mayo.. motorway from Gort means Gaelic grounds is probably about 2-2.c5 hours away depending where you'e travelling from in the west. similar distance if coming up from west Kerry.
There'll probably be a lot of angst about the location and it should be on at Croke park but gaelic grounds is a decent spot apart from the mackey stand.
Great for us here to have a top class game of football on, doesn't happen very often. Be a great game.

I like your idea and is exactly the sort of idea I was looking for in my "GAA need to promote matches more" thread.

In defense of the GAA, there were only 52k at this match and over the years replays not involving Dublin in croker tend to have a smaller attendance. Great to see a big game outside of Dublin for once and it will really freshen things up. Last time and AI semi was outside of croker was Cork v Dublin 1983 and what a day that was.

Mayo and Kerry fans will welcome the cheaper cost of travelling to the replay Limerick city gets a much needed boost but the loss of Hawk Eye for the match is a big blow. It was the difference today with the mayo point. Very important for the big games.

For me big positives and negatives with this replay and your idea is one of the biggest potential losses but the GAA wouldn't of had the vision for that anyway.

The GAA run the risk of this happening by staging foreign events. It was the same with the Bruce Springsteen concerts. Had they gone ahead there was no place in Leinster fit to hold the Leinster Final replay (if it was required). In my opinion between July 1st and September 31st, Croke Park should be a GAA only stadium.

They should charge the regular prices. Not many big games in the year and the funding nearly all goes back to the grassroots. You will get excellent value for money paying 40€ for a seat or 25/30€ for a terrace ticket. I certainly wouldn't moan anyway.
