Declan Fanning on Tipp County Board playing league

(Oldest Posts First)

I have to say I think he is completely wrong. Kilkenny had full round of club games last week and as far as I know will another before the final. More Dublin hurlers have been injured in training than would ever have been in club games if they were not all put on hold for months! I remember seeing Vinnies in the 70s playing league games days before Dubs games with all the county players on the pitch!

He is talking about championship games like division semis/finals not league games and yes I think he is wrong
And mentioning vincents in 70s playing club games right before inter-county games is not relevant to now its totally different era in relation to r+r around games, training etc

He actually defeats his own point as he says the same happened in 2010, the year they won the All Ireland! Cats have been doing it for decades and hasn't done them any harm.

Kilkenny have an extra week to prepare for this final - they're not like for like!

Would Cody allow another round of Championship games this weekend?

Don't know the answer to your question. However, did Colin Fennelly not miss an All-Ireland final two or three years ago as he played with his club a week before the ALl-Ireland final??

Could anybody shed light on that as I am little vague on the details but seem to recall something like it.

For an amateur sport we make it really complicated. The GAA is run like a professional organisation but yet we are still amateur and find ourselves in club v county issues and club v country issues when it comes to the Compromise Rules Series.

In North Tipperary there is an Intermediate Semi Final on Friday night and only 1 player is involved with the Tipp team. Should that game be called off just because we are scared he might get a belt.

The county board call the shots and if they wish to take the risk of putting players chances of missing an AI Final then that's their problem. They will bear the wrath of the clubs in the following weeks , months meeting and their will be uproar.

Personally for me I would like to see a round of games take place. The county team can still train but obviously the strain is on the players who will be taking to the field in September. These guys on the Tipp panel need a game ahead of the AI final. Training matches will only get you so far.

KK wouldnt play a set of cship matches this close to an All Ireland. Anyone that says they would is wrong.

However, I don't think it will do them any harm to keep there mind off the game. I'd back the county board on this one, for a change!
