Every week on here & in the media somebody comes out with a new structure or calls for a revamp of the championship. Mattie Murphy the Galway minor hurling manager is again calling for an end to the provincial structure.
It appears more & more GAA people want an end to the provincial councils with some even wanting an end to county boards having control of club fixtures which sees counties like Dublin & Donegal suspending club fixtures
If we could start from scratch before we get into systems how would people structure club & inter county fixtures.
Could a system work whereby we abolished the national league and from Feburary to April we played the bulk of club fixtures with no intercounty football at all. No training either until the middle of March so the club system will work better as a springboard to the intercounty system.
Then from April to late August we played the intercounty championship in whatever format was best. We all have different ideas on that. Club league fixtures would run concurrently alongside this but chosen intercounty players would not be available for their clubs.
September to late October would be for the All Ireland Club Championship( Open Draw)
Could this be a runner or do club players feel strongly that they should be allowed to play club championship games in the height of summer?
