Uneven Football Qualifier Groups

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was just looking at the 2 football qualifier groups earlier and it's very noticeable that one side is way stronger and more difficult to qualify from than the other. Seems a little unfair to me. Any ideas how this came about?

Is there a link to the Qualifier groups?

As far as I'm aware Down can draw either Kildare, Clare, Roscommon or Armagh/Monaghan in tomorrow mornings 2b draw. Is this correct?

Yea that's right Mourne Army. Just seems strange to me that all the teams from Ulster, the strongest province generally, are on the same side of the draw. Mostly Div 3 & 4 teams on the other side.

The groups are section A is Wicklow, Laois,Longford, and Limerick will play Sligo Tipperary Antrim or Wexford
Section B is Tyrone Carlow Cavan and down and they can play Clare Roscommon Kildare or Monaghan/Armagh just think been in section B is very unfair

Rightfull

If Derry had beaten Longford and Fermanagh had beaten Laois than there would have been 3 Ulster teams in Group A.

It's the luck of the draw, stop trying to make something out of nothing.

Looking at that div b draw I've a feeling carlow are going to be very popular on Monday morning.

Not sure we want all the attention.

Looks uneven. But Tyrone are the only team there that a top team might fear in August.

The way it came about is all down to trying to ensure teams had more than a one week turnaround when the exited their province. Good idea in theory but probably not working out too well for some counties.

True that it is all luck of the draw. But can someone please tell me what the benefits of splitting the Qualifiers into Section A and B are? I really don't see the purpose of it at all, nor do I understand it. A load of pointless bull**** if you ask me.

Good chance for likes of Laois & Longford to go on a run. Hopefully we won't have to worry about the qualifiers yet!

It an attempt to make it easier for clubs to arrange their fixtures and removes the provincial losers 7 day turnaround until their next match.

It was done with good intentions, but has obvious flaws.

did i hear right there when the presenter of the draw said. if two teams are drawn against each other that have alredy met then home advantage goes to the "Winner" of the earlier match. so If Monaghan lose to Armagh then they have a home tie v Tyrone. but if Armagh lose to Monaghan then they are away to Tyrone.

Absolute disgrace that teams that have already played can been drawn against eachother this early in the comp. The GAA can be such a farce at times. Look how Carlow exposed the black card yesterday also. And people fear we'll go PROFESSIONAL!!!

Ulster counties could always table a motion for 50% representation from each province in the final 16 and take control it's own qualifier section.

Just see your post now Big Tom & you're right, it is luck of the draw. Wouldn't begrudge yourselves a softer draw after the rigged seeding system you face in Munster. Think that's correct S Goldrick. What happened with Carlow & the black cards?

Have to say that this is an absolute farce, Once again we have this stupid scenario.

Teams from the same province should not be meeting in the opening two rounds of the Qualifiers. Where is the All Ireland dimension to that?

They talk of seeding Munster, and yet in Ulster we see Tyrone, Derry and Down exit before the Provincial Semi Final's. And now just in case anybody gets ahead of themselves, Tyrone you will have to play Monaghan or Armagh next!! with possibly Down in Rd 3.

Just noticing now that all these matches are scheduled on Saturdays. Surely in the spirit of this grouping system the Tyrone v Armagh/Mon should be put back to Sun 13th. Wouldn't hold my breath though!

Will be very difficult for the losers of Armagh/Monaghan with a 6 day turnaround to face Tyrone.

It's probably all or nothing on Sunday.
