Home / away Championship games in alternate years?

(Oldest Posts First)

Would people support a return to the old Championship format
of home and away matches in alternate years in the provincial
Championship??

I know with my own county,Down, we havent had a home draw
first match since 2007 against Monaghan meaning Newry gets to
stage very few Championship matches?? Tyrone away 08, Fermanagh
away 09,Donegal away 2010, Armagh away 2011, Fermanagh away
2012,Derry away 2013 and Tyrone away 2014??

Im sure that other counties are in the same boat?? For Down
home advantage could be crucial, we play much better at home
than on the road.

Meath would be happy with one home championship game every decade. Since we ain't have one in two decades.

Mayo Galway and Roscommon all have this arrangement between each other

All joking aside....its workable in provinces like Connaught and Munster. Not sure about Ulster though, the early rounds are competitive, Ulster GAA would want the bigger revenue.

Leinster is a no brainger .... "Milk the Dubs"

I wouldn't mind going on the road in the championship....would go away hurling/football fixtures minor/21 and senior all the time. So its no skin off my nose travelling.

But the cash-cow that Dublin Football is to the GAA makes any sensible argument about home/away fixtures go out the window. Simply put....the GAA make more money with Dublin in Croke Park. That's what the bottom dollar is.

Home and away fixtures in consecutive years is the way it in in Connacht ( except New York and London games like ) . Dublin playing all their games in Dublin year on year is a joke. How many times have they ever travelled outside for a Leinster championship game? Saying Croke park is an away venue and Parnell park is a home venue is also a joke

Matches 100% should be home and away in nature. Counties with grounds capable of hosting games shouldn't be losing out due to those who don't. If a county doesn't have a suitable ground, they should have choice of venue.
I suppose in Leinster, there'll be a stipulation semi-finals and final in Croke Park in football.

You can say "its a joke".

But the GAA will Dubs in Croke Park is a winner. They make the most money out of that. Its an argument that's been re-hashed on there hundreds of times.

The reason Dublin don't play outside Croke Park, is a financial one.

Whether you think its fair or not is irrelevant. Look at the treatment of the residents around Croke Park this coming summer....scandalous....but the GAA are already down the route of "whatever makes financial sense"

Sky TV....Garth Brooks....One Direction.....Dubs in Croke Park

MONEY
