1. Top heavy County board officials have stagnated the development of footballers in Galway anyways Redhot through shutting down all meaningful competitions during the summer hence the majority of players head off to USA etc. This year there was only 1 round of League games in the county before the championship as a result of Galway heading to New York. No meaningful league system therefore no competitive edge to games, just the same guys doing the same high scoring in matches to get their club teams through e.g. Padraic and Nicky Joyce kicked 13 (I think) of 16 points for their club last weekend. We need a Divisional system like in Cork and Kerry to start breeding footballers and putting in place a sense of meaningful competition to maintain players interest.
2. Outside management would be the second problem, O Mahony was good in that he gelled the guys that were there but failed to bring through the next generation of footballers into the panel. AS a result Forde, Sammon (even though he is from Galway) and Kernan are missing out on some footballers who inevitably just got tired of trying and we now have a situation where there are the same footballers trying the last 5 years with 3 different managers and we're still no better.
3. County players and club players need to stand up to the appalling treatment of GAA players in the county (ie no regular fixtures, a fixture masterplan that is produced in March but is never adhered to) but we're no rebels like Cork up here so can't see that happening or changing.
That's my two pence anyways.......
Good luck to Cork at the weekend.

Hello Cork . . . . . Yes Connacht has not performed as it should in recent years. Galway have only won two titles in the last twelve years. They left 2000 behind them, with Kerry on the ropes in the first game despite being without Thomas Mannion and Ja Fallon, and a half-fit Kevin Walsh. Mayo have reached a few finals (3?) but lost heavily in both. Cork meanwhile have appeared in a few finals and that is great.

Its a return to the norm. The galway team of the late 90s / early 00s was an exceptional outfit. Galway county produces a team like this once in a blue moon. Mayo have always been an average side, CMcD was an exceptional player who helped to lift Mayo above their normal station in recent years. The Ross whilst everyone loves an underdog will be beat out the park next day out, the back door / 1/4 final for provincial winners could see the normal order of things restored. Connacht teams will struggle to make the final even once in the next decade.

I forgot to say that Roscommon will reach the Semi if they beat Cork on sunday but i reckon that they have only got a very very slim chance of beating Cork

Still it is possible that Cork could beat themselves on sunday

Lets look @ the facts now jammy. Leinster football has been the disgrace the last decade not connaught. Leinster have the most number of counties competing with the largest population and what have ye to show for it only 1 all ireland final appearance by meath in 2001. A overhyped dublin team has dominated leinster the last while. Now lets look @ connaught who has the smallest number of counties competing and also the smallest population. Connaught have been involved in 4 all ireland finals this decade and has 1 all ireland title. Also another fact my friend is the greatest attendence for all ireland finals involved Mayo in 2006. I think you will see the minor football finals this decade will show you the same. Leinster are like a heavyweight boxer fighting in middleweight division and still not making progress, while connaught is like a flyweight in a middleweight division holding it own.

Snufalufagus I really don't think you should be talking about being found out with the imminent hammering from Tyrone just a matter of days away.

Four whole years eh ?...might be something to do with the fact there's only 5 counties in the province to start with. Mind you in footbaling terms only 2 in Munster have a realistic chance of getting as far as the semis

It might be something to do with the population of Connacht. There's just over half a million living in Connacht. How could we possibly compete against the other provinces? Leinster are the ones who should be winning every other year as most of the country lives in the greater Dublin area.

Try using some common sense before posting rubbish about Connacht failing to perform!!
