Irish National Party

What are the views of hoganstand users on the rise of the new far right group the Irish National Party? The group is closely modelled on the British National Party and advocates the same anti immigrant policies. They say they are hoping to take advantage of the anger amongst young unemployed people at the foreigners who have jobs here. Although not an established political party yet their leader says he is preparing to form a party in the very near future. Is there a place for this sort of extreme right wing politics in Ireland? And would they get much support?

Closely modelled on the British National Party? hmmm. Who is their leader, where are you getting the info on them? I understand people are frustrated with the present government and parties but i cant see everyone giving support to this party based on the above comment. What are they calling themselves?

"Is there a place for this sort of extreme right wing politics in Ireland?"

Is there a place for it anywhere? Obviously you need public debates around various issues and you can't stifle that debate by simply describing any opinion you don't like, even if it is irresponsible and inflammatory. Judging by their website (I googled the name to see if they had one), this crowd only differ from various left wing political groups regarding health, economy, environment, education etc in that immigration recurs as a theme and is given prominence. Given that centre/right parties like Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour have all tried, on occasion, to adopt very, very subtle anti-immigration platforms in the last few years, the 'Irish National Party' might find the same ground a little crowded.

If you were setting up a new party, you would be better off being an openly anti-bank/anti-NAMA/anti-developer party - that would get serious votes.

Paddy I was genuinely gonna make a similar post myself considering you have such extreme dislike of certain people due to their geographical location/origins, however I decided to rise above it. I'm glad I did.

How naive Liam............the true mark of an Irishman is if he supports a British soccer team because they wear green.
