they are made from some sort of plastic or fiber glass not actually sure what but youd get great value out of them as they dont break and you get a better strike out of them.

You can buy them on www.cultec.ie

I hopthey are better than those wavin yokes. You'd have vibrations up your arms for years after those yokes.

Why buy plastic fake hurl's when at the same time the likes of Teagasc are making money out of making natural and proper hurl's ?.

Presumably because they may be superior to ash hurleys and don't break Duffy. And cultec are an Irish company too, why do you care about Teagasc?

I mean't to say Coilte though.do they not grow the Ash tree's for the hurl's ? correct me if i'm wrong.in fairness,if plastic hurls come popular it'll put an awful lot of people out of business and we can't have that for you see hurling is unique in a way it's only played mainly in Ireland and the hurley maker is an extra unique job.

Hi All, I'm from Cultec, a mate of ours let us know that this discussion was Hoganstand so I thought I'd sign up and at least if anyone had any questions or if there was any confusion I could clear it up. It's great to hear that those who have tried them are getting on well with them. It's amazing how many people still think back to the wavin hurl and comment on how bad they are, but no, the Cúltec is not like the old wavin hurleys there is no more sting or vibration from it than you would get from an ash hurl/hurley. They are made from a number of synthetic materials such as carbon fibre, graphite and Kevlar. It's taken the best part of 7 years to final arrive todays finished product so there has been a lot of research and development completed in order to produce a hurl made from synthetic materials with all the positive characteristics of an ash hurl. Despite what some people say the Cúltec hurl is not unbreakable and for safety reasons cannot be, it is stronger than your average ash hurley and because of the nature of the materials used it is also lighter than your average ash hurl. As everyone knows we were not the first to come up with the idea of a "plastic" or graphite hurl but we feel that we are the first to come up with something that can be looked upon as an alternative to the ash. The real advantage to them is that if a player gives it a try, like it and gets used to it, even if they do break the hurl they can just pick up another and go ahead with it they are already used to it, each Cúltec is the very same shape, weight and balance +/- 3%. I'd like to think it's because of these reasons we have achieved so much which can be seen on our blog http://cultechurleys.blogspot.com/ The Cúltec was first used in senior inter-county championship by Diarmuid Horan and since then we have continued to improve the hurl by making the bás bigger and giving the bás a sandblasted finish which gives it a sandpaper feel for better control, particularly in the wet. We fully intend to continue our research and development to improve the product and for this reason it's great for us to get feedback on what people think of the product. Despite the claims of lowerormond above the hurls don't cost E50, the adult size Cúltec, 34", 35" and 36" are E39.99 and then the prices are staggered down to 27" which is E24.99, you can see all the prices and different colours on our site www.cultec.ie where you can also buy them online. The hurls come with 2 grips and an "end cap" this is the little rubber cap on the top of the handle to give grip right up to the top of the hurl without having a big bulky grip. We were recently exhibiting at the GAA development conference in Croke Park and one thing we noticed was how little people know about us, but one of the positives that we came away with was the amount of coaches who were so sceptical of the hurl when they were looking at but then when they picked it up and bounced a ball on it the majority of them were shocked at how good it was. It was great to see how we have achieved the production of a good quality hurl but it also showed how we have to overcome the perception people have of a hurl made from synthetic materials as many people say to me "Are you the guy that does the fake hurl?"!!! So hopefully that helps the discussion, if you have any other questions you can ask or you can contact me directly gerry(at)cultec.ie
