If Another Person Mentions "2nd Season Syndrome"..

(Oldest Posts First)

could some of the doctors on here please explain to me why they have diagnosed meath with this sickness. personally i think its the greatest load of rubbish, any analysis i read about meath's chances in this year's championships will go something like this: "lost the element of surprise, suffering from second season syndrome". what is that supposed to mean "second season syndrome"? why have meath got it but nobody else does? what are the synthoms of this syndrome and how do i know if a team has it?

Meath can't have 2nd Season Syndrome, they didn;'t even have 1st Season Syndrome!! Didn't exactly set the scene alight last year now, did they? ;)

I dunno, but I hope there isn't a 13th season syndrome for the Dubs!

niamh, the first part of your message makes no sense whatsoever. the second part is just ridiculous, meath were one of the stories of the championship in 2007.

Niamh has a point; let's review the criteria for being "one of the stories of the championship"....

. another Leinster semi-final defeat
(since their last Leinster title in 2001, Meath have lost all 4 Leinster semis they have appeared in)

. a 10 point hammering in an All Ireland semi-final (no comment required)

The only stories of 2007 were Kerry's All Ireland victory and Sligo's Connacht triumph, (no disrespect to Tyrone or Dublin).

Last year Meath finished 2nd in the lowest league division.

Yes you beat Kildare comfortably in your 2007 opener and then drew with the Dubs who then beat you by 4 points in the replay.

In the Qualifiers, you beat Down and Fermanagh. Galway and Tyrone were both good wins. than you were destroyed by an understrength Cork side in the Q/f

Other than those 2 matches against Galway and Tyrone, how were Meath the talk of the Championship last year?

niamh you have an iq similiar to that of a head of cabbage. all you are doing is twisting facts to suit your argument which means nothing.

by your reasoning, if you take out kerry's all-ireland semi-final and all-ireland final victories, then how were they the talk of the championship?

everything your saying about meath is based on their performance against cork last year which is completely ridiculous. worse again, you say cork were understrength. they were missing one player i think - james masters. meath were missing eoin harrington and anthony moyles so again by your reasoning meath were more understrength than cork.

meath finished second last year in division 2b but then subsequently won the division outright. it may have been the lowest division but since there were only two divisions at the time, we did not do too bad to win it.

so i think meath were one of the stories of the championship in 2007 winning the games against galway and tyrone and providing the public with one of the games of the championship against dublin (which we should have won only for the ref).

Here, here - lets reclaim a bit of civility for these boards! And the threads that are appearing here lately are shocking too. What about if a thread has less than 5 replies after a week its removed - at least it would tidy the place up a bit - its madness round here! I might get Whiterbannnas round to do a tidy up. Haven't heard of him since he went on the date. We'll give it another 3 years and if he is still missing we'll report it to the police! I was trying to post some other suggestions today but our gracious hosts have continously blocked. Mild criticism not allowed it seems - ouch!

In fairness now Niamh, Meath came unexpectedly to semi finals, beating a few good teams along the way. Isn't that what everyone is after in championship, the unexpected team going a long way? If they arent the talk of the championship then what is? Cant be Monaghan, by your logic they didnt really do anything, lost to Tyrone and Kerry so they didnt even win as many games as Meath etc etc...

Have to be honest and say I really don't see Meath a threat this year, fair enough league form does not count for a lot when it comes to chamionship...but it does help.I just don't think they have the players, young ward did well last year as did the introduction of shane o'rourke but I would not be confident if I was a meath man

nobody saw meath as a threat last year either but then after we beat tyrone we were being talked up in certain papers as all ireland contenders and then cork gave us a good old fashioned thumping but looking back i think coyler did a great job and if we can survive the early rounds missing 10 players including our best 2 backs faye and moyles then we will really be in good shape when these lads return as the youg lads coming in now will have done well and in fairness its a big if but if we do it i would be very confident of having another good year and things are looking good as i think we have some good young lads coming through as well as a promising minor team this year
