No, the players that have been mentioned, don't have all the medals underage. Only one player does, isn't it a bad state of affairs that no of ye know the answer immediately

There is only one clear winner here as there is only one player in the country who won an All Ireland Schools medal(Colaiste Chriost Ri), All Ireland Club Football Championship(Nemo Rangers)All Ireland Championship medals at minor, U-21 and senior level in both hurling and football. He has also won All Stars in both codes and a few Railway Cups along the way. He also won a couple of National League medals. The legend that is Brian Murphy from Cork. He is a true gentleman. He is a Detective based in Kilkenny now and is heaily involved in the O' Loughlin Gaels Hurling club in the city.

Teddy McCarthy is the only player to win both All Ireland football and hurling winners medals

RedHot-your way off the mark-Brian Murphy won an All Ireland Senior Football Championship Medal with Cork in 1973. He won an All Ireland Club medal with Nemo the same year and capped a fine year off with a football All Star. Records show he also won a Munster and All Ireland Under 21 medal in 1973 also.

Great dual stars? Kevin Armstrong, won nowt, Des Foley, won a football title, Declan Browne, won nowt.

Brian Murphy was in the right county at the right time.

As I keep saying, winning medals is not a reliable guide to stardom as a player.

This is basically a Cork thread. isn't it (am just jealous)?
Closest things Ulster can offer are Kevin Armstrong (Antrim) - no All-Irelands (although Railway Cup and Oireachtas medals) - won a GAA All-time Allstar in 1988 for football and on the hurling team of the century for players who never won an All-Ireland.
Greg Blaney (Down) probably the only Ulster player of recent years to win Ulster SFC and SHC medals and possibly a full haul of MFC/MHC and 21FC and U21HC, with U21 and SFC All-Irelands.
Maybe some of the Derry guys won SFC and SHC medals - some of the Henry Downey, Seamus Downey, Brian Magilligan, Big Geoffrey?

Thats a good one Patrique about Brian Murphy being in the right county at the right time. I suppose you will say the same about the school he attended and the club he played for. Every team he played for he had remarkable success with. Its hardly being in the right place at the right time. You also say that winning medals is not a reliable guide to stardom. Fair point but not in Brian Murphys case. He won All Stars in both codes and was a permanent fixture in bot Railway Cup teams back when the Railway Cup was a huge deal. Also being the only man in the country to win a schools medals, All Ireland Club Football medal, and All Ireland medals in both codes at minor under 21 and senior level makes him one of the biggest stars of all time.

fair point MayofaninKK but the reality is, Patrique is right because he is Patrique which he has to be right. Brian Murphy was not really that good, he was carried all the way, a passenger to the last on every team he played on.

I would have to disagree with you there Benny Bunny as Brian Murphy, Seamus Looney, and O'Docherty were all great dual players, and around my playing era. Even played against some of them.

Nurphy was an excellent player, and deserves a bit of respect.

The thread however is called the "Greatest Dual Star" and lists his achievements. I think Murphy was good, but not the "greatest" dual star.

Do You?

By the way, Mayo fan, having seen both players play, Keith Higgins is as good a player. I doubt if he will be as successful as Murphy, certainly not on the hurling scene.

Is that because of where he was born, or was the Cork team Murphy played on a one man team, namely Murphy?

I think JBM may give you an argument on that one.
