National - Joe Canning for Hurler of the Year

Replying To tiobraid:  "Just watched the first half again and what a half of hurling Barron had and he was still quiet by his own standards! By my rough calculations he had more possessions than any other player and more than Burke and canning combined. I'm 100% sure he hashirler of the year sewn up"
Why are you judging players on first half performances, most big games are won in the last 20 minutes? You thought Canning being quiet in the first half against Tipperary should be one of the reasons he doesn't win player of the year and Barron getting on the ball a lot in the first half of the final a reason he should win it. Watch the 2nd half and tell us who was supposed to be picking up Burke for his 2 points, which were huge scores in the game. If your man gets man of the match I don't know how you can have had a good game - a player has 2 roles and that is to stop your opponent and contribute to your own sides play. The lads voting for these awards often only see highlights of most championship games but as Canning is a popular figure in the hurling world Id say he should have a real good chance.

I was making the point that he hadn't a bad game not he deserves it on that game. Who was picking Barron up for his scores? He had a huge impact on that game.

I am indeed! Moran wont take any votes away from Barron in my opinion. The consensus last year was that Callanan would get it but I'd imagine Maher got a lot of votes (I thought he was definitely hurler of the year last year). Moran was excellent this year but if Canning wins it this year, I don't think the same logic can be used that was used by some last year for the Hurling and Football winners.

Its the "Hurler of the Year " award not the "hurler of the All Ireland Final" or even the Hurler of the All Ireland Championship for that matter and therefore the winner should be Canning who played a massive role in winning the league title for Galway as well as the Leinster and All Ireland Championships.

I disagree with you. Moran will take SOME votes from Barron just like Geroid Mac would have hurt Canning if he was to get through. Whether Barron wins or not Moran will get some of his votes.
