Intermediate Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First)

its becoming more evident that the intermediate Hurling Championship is fading away badly ,Would it not be a good idea to offer Senior Hurling Teams From Wicklow ,Meath ,Roscommon ,Sligo ,TYrone ,Donegal & a few more intercounty teams a chance to prolong there Hurling Year by entering this comp along with the present intermediate sides ,it could revitalise this tournament or is this idea to positive for the GAA to even consider

GAA is becoming all about the senior team in every county, minor will go backwards now that it has become under 17 under 20 football is going to be a non event within five years. All the money is being pumped into the top of the tree.

Would have no problem with that myself, Wexford have no interest in it anyway.

It should be for Division 2 teams emerald imo.
I really don't understand why they just don't set up championship in same format as club championships with promotion/relegation instead of this nonsense of qualifier groups and back door.

Not a bad idea.

I don't think posters understand the difference in quality between, for example, the Meath hurling team and the Sligo hurling team. Trying to put teams like this in the same competition does nobody any good.

Its a disgrace that my county and other division 2 counties effectively are finished hurling in May. No matches now until January. Years ago, there was always some sort of summer competition and usually an autumn one too.

I think a better solution would be to move the timing of the Ring/Rackard/Meagher cups to later in the summer, it is a disgrace that so many counties are done hurling in May, I fully agree with that viewpoint.

Things are definitely better now with the Meagher/Rackard/Ring competitions. The drawback with running another competition for these counties at this time of year is the hurling clubs, already trying to work around club football, would be totally screwed.
