Offaly v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Cavan head for Tullamore on Sunday in search of a winning start to the qualifiers against an Offaly side which went down to Westmeath by 11 points in their Leinster SFC quarter-final replay. Will Mattie McGleenan get his first championship win as Breffni boss or can the Faithful men spring an upset?

This thread will be used to discuss the game at O'Connor Park.

That would do me.
Mattie doesn't know his strongest side as yet. Time he did.

They did meet in the 1969 all ireland semi final mind you. The stock of both (especially Offaly) well down on those days unfortunately although Offaly should have beaten Westmeath the first day and Cavan have plateaued from some good progression in recent years.

Time for all true Offaly Gaels to get behind Pat Flanagan, and his team on Sunday evening. In 1997 both counties won provincial titles after a barren period.
Will you be there. Fairplayalways?

What's the best place for parking to get in and out of the ground?

Especially Offaly??

Since 1969 they have won 3 All Irelands and 7 Leinster titles to Cavan's 1 Ulster success in 1997.
They also had a good go at the hurling in that time (4 All Ireland seniors).

I would gladly swap our record for theirs over that time. Its all irrelevant for Sunday though, just like the match itself.

How do you come to the conclusion that the game is irrelevant?

You can park in the HSE offices across the road from OCP, or try the Health Centre beside the ground, parking may be subject to a fee.

If you want free parking continue on the bypass to the Cappincur roundabout, opposite AES. Take the 3rd exit into town, there is a free car park opposite the SHS school. It tends to fill up, so come early.Cross the bridge and take the footbridge over the canal, to tne next bridge, the ground is on the Arden Road.
Enjoy your visit to Tullamore.

yes. that's what the man said. you should be agreeing with him. Offaly's stock has fallen further than Cavan's since the heady days of the late 1960's and the 1980s whereas Cavan's was not that great anyway and hasn't fallen that much. . at least that's what I think he meant.

Was down for the u21 final a couple of months back.

Drive right into the town past OCP. take a left and park in any of the housing estates behind the ground.

This won't work if you're in a hurry to get away but don't be - tullamore is a lovely town with a few gems of pubs for food and drink. Stay for an hour or so after the game and leave once the traffic has died down.

Side note. . .Will tickets be available at the ground?
