Player of the Year so far!!

727151 But to be considered as player of the year so far surely the players would need to have lead their team to significant victories because it is in those games where you see greatness. In the high intensity high stakes game. I would agree that Joyce is a fine footballer but Galway beat just New York in what was possibly one of the poorest Connaught championships in years. Likewise with Galvin who is an excellent midfielder. Limerick have been playing a higher caliber of opponent in Kerry and Cork but have lost to both. They have just managed to beat waterford this year. Paddy Keenan on the other hand has had an excellent championship so far and has lead his county to significant victories over Kildare (and you could say Meath).

There is no doubt that all the players mentioned are excellent but its abit crazy to talk about some of them as possibles for players of the year so far when other players have played excellently and achieved significant victories.

----

Joyce was up until July one of the standout players in the country. His teammates let him down but he was inspirational, kicked a lot of scores, set up scores, and was a level above everyone in every game he played. The fact that his team was not good enough should not distract from his performance.

On individaul performances this year going on the majority of the championship:

Johnny Doyle: Kept quiet against louth and failed to impress against monaghan.
MD Mc Cauley: Has been impressive so far so deserves a mention.
Bernard Brogan: As someone previously stated he was largely annonomous in Meath and Louth encounters but it must be said he was a class act against armagh.
Gooch Cooper: Has done his business quietly so far and we shall see a lot more of his class in the coming weeks... as of now i wudnt have him as player of the year but he usually does produce the goods on the big stage...
Justin Mc Mahon: Probably Tyrones best played so far... so has to be in top 3 so far
Donal Shine: 0-9, 1-7 & 0-10 in three championship matchs is phenomenal... So far has been most consistant forward on view..
P. Joyce: Did stand out in a poor year for tribesmen but hard for him to impress and get the recognition when team goes nowhere..
Paddy Keenan: The main reason louth got so far this year.. he defo impressed in all the games even against dubs when he was more or less playing on his own!
Seamus Kenny: Had a good game against the Dubs but dat was it....
Graham Reilly: Must be mentioned as he has done a lot of scoring from wing forward... No disrespect but he wudnt be the stand out player of the year..

Wat do people think??

Seamus Kenny deserves alot more credit than he's gotten this year. He does alot of the dirty unnoticeable work in around the middle for Meath. Was unreal against the Dubs. Has been grabbing the breaking ball like picking apples from a tree

Football: P Joyce/Galway for carrying not only his 14 team mates but the entire county on his back during our poor campaign. And at his age as well.

Hurling: T Browne/Waterford for his performances against Cork. A goal and a headed clearance at the end of each match respectively. And at his age as well.

twisted menace can you honestly not see why people mention these players. They were their countys main performers and were the players that managed to keep games tight. John galvin is possibly the best midfielder in the country at the moment. Id have dermot earley as his competition. I know the kerry and tyrone people will disagree but thats mine and alot of other opinions. Padraig joyce is a legend and a true great it in gaelic. what age is he? and yet he is still one of connachts best forward. again there are others but he is extremely important to that galway team. As a donegal person I can honestly say both them players would walk in and be our best players. somebody like joyce would really take the heat off murphy

Bernard Brogan as of now must be favourite for footballer of the year, but it all hinges on who wins the all ireland I guess.
