Why should the penalty kick be taken from the ground as it is a free kick ? I believe that the player should have the option to kick from the hand and from within a small circle which would allow a short run up. We should not have to take them soccer style. At present i feel that a penalty kick is too easy to save as our goals are narrower than a soccer goal. The penalty should favour the team who gets it. I think this change should be implemented and given a chance !!

Much much more scoreable off the ground. Would be different if you had a long run up of course, but sure that would be ridiculous. U cant take a big run with a free and kick, so why should you with a peno,
If you gave any lad a choice of taking a peno from the ground or from your hand, i would be surprised if anyone took it from the hand.

stop lads stealing a yard or 2. easier to save from the hand, harder to get it low, hard and into the corner. from the hand tends to be higher and less powerful over a short distance

I think a penalty kick should have six points for a score to the net and three points for a score over the bar. Too many penalty kicks end up with the team awarded the penalty getting nothing from it. At least this way there is a minimum of three points on offer should the team elect to go for that.

Good idea squid, but id alter the score awarded.
How about 2 points over the bar, cos if its 3, then theres no protection for the back of incentive to risk a tackle if the other team is garunteed a goal. But 4 points if they hit the net, so theres more to be gained if the taker takes on the challenge & goes for goal!

The GAA have already introduced an experimental rule where the penalty spot is moved forward 2m, this is a far better idea than any of the daft suggestions on this thread.

I disagree with those who say it would be easier to save !! I believe there is an art to kicking from the hand and not many players have it. I would definitely have favoured taking a penalty from my hands in my playing days as i believe it is harder for goalkeepers to read it. Anyone who has difficulty keeping a ball low with a kick from the hands should not be playing football !!

I believe the adoption this would help to insure that a player coming in on goal was not fouled deliberately (takin out of it)so as to prevent them from scoring a goal (3 points). Furthermore I could see a concept such as this adding further spice to our game of football.

Not very often, but perhaps it would be a good idea to more strictly enforce this rule. You still haven't explained how moving the ball closer to goal favours the goalkeeper either, if this were actually true maybe it would be a good idea to move the penalty spot out to the 20m line, where it is in hurling?

One more thing... what new scoring system would you use, the old 2-6 meaning two goals and six points wouldn't work if one of those goals and one of the points came from penalties. You'd have to go for something like 1-1-1-5, and instead of adding up to 12points, it would be 17! Absolutely ridiculous idea, I can't believe you are actually serious.

would agree with squid on this, think 2 metre closer would definitly narrow the angle a lot for the Keper, especially as the movement rule is not enforced
