You could say the same about the majority of counties in Ireland.

Monaghan won national hurling silverware this year! So there!

May only be the NHL div 4, but believe me it's good progress for a small county with a handful of hurling teams like us and it's good to see an effort being put in. Scorn all you want but the vast majority of Ulster never traditionally played hurling so it's always going to be hard for it to pick up.

Now it is not cowardice that prevents Ulster from playing hurling, rather historic development and geography. Name an All Ireland hurling contender that does not border Tipperary? Few and far between.

So hurling is centred in and around a defined area. Draw a line from Dublin across to Galway and there is precious little on the hurling front North of that line.

The hurlers on the Ards peninsular in Co Down are the finest achievement in the GAA, totally isolated yet sometimes feasturing in Division One in the league, and drawn from three clubs. Admittedly the clubs play in the Antrim league, but Antrim is also geographically isolated.

I would agree that much needs to be done to develop hurling all over the country. This year all nine Ulster teams competed in the Ulster Championship. Indeed Tyrone won a game, which is more than they did in football, but I doubt if ANYONE is going to say that Tyrone are weak or cowardly when it comes to football.

So some progress has been made. However until ALL of the counties raise their game, the likes of Antrim will always struggle, as our top players, people we believe to be brilliant, do not come up against real top players until they are 18. At that stage, we realise that our superstars are not as good as we thought, and by then it is too late. Hence the need for Antrim to be in Leinster at schools and U12 level, right up to senior.

So a good attempt at a wind up Bad monkey, and some will bite, but alas not true.

When's the last time the US won a match. I agree their a bit rough but they do their best at the GAA as do the rest of Ireland.

I would not say scared at all. Just not putting in the work required to promote it. The easiest thing to do is to run the game down. Most would dearly love their county to be competitive hurling. I wont lie I would take a Minor or senior AI win over a football AI anyday

To my knowledge all counties play hurling to one level or another. are you saying some counties are not as good as because they are not as tough??? what about teams which are not good at football, are they even softer then??? Thats just going my your arguement of hurling being "harder" than football!!!! monkey

soft? no. rough? yes.

bad monkey they dont play football up there either. compare the disciplinary record in ulster over the last 10 years to any other province and youll see more yellow and red cards, persistent fouling, off the ball hits, third man tackling, swarming...the list is endless.

perhaps your thread should be renamed - ulster is the worst province for football.
