New rules

(Oldest Posts First)

Can anyone suggest any rules that might improve our games? I feel hurling needs very little change, if any, as it probably the best field sport in the world, but I do think that our football needs a ruling regarding tackling. The "shoulder" has become almost obsolete because of the pace of the game.
Also, with all the handpassing that goes on, the term football may need to be changed soon.

i think that the 'square ball' rule should be taken out and the suggested sin bin rule which if you get a yellow card your out for a period of time should not come into effect. otherwise the rules are grand as it is

Hurling- nothing needs to be changed.

Football- nothing needs to be changed. referees need to start implementing every single rule in the rulebook. Because we all know they dont. If they did we would have games like back in the 70s and 80s where there was hard, fair hitting with shoulder, and no fouling of the ball. To be honest I get more frustrated and angry getting my jersey pulled, the guy Im playing picikng the ball off the ground and then taking 12 steps than if there is a row. The way players are allowed foul the ball constantly nowadays in the interests of "keeping the game flowing" is a disgrace. If everyone knew when theyd get punished everyone would stop fouling.

Bring in the mark to the game. As time after time we see the pulling and dragging of a player when they field a great catch .
It really makes the Game look poor and slows it down.

Give linesman more powers making them more like an assistant referee than a man with a stick. They should be aloud call aggressive fouls.

Leave it the way it is good football. The mark would destroy the game watching to many aussie rules football.

Given the current emphasis on fitness I think the mark could be a good addition, in football obviously.

still think getting rid of the corner flags would be a good move, allowing points to be scored from behind the goal, H+S might have concerns but im sure ithey could be circumvented by the appeals committee. it would also help keep the umpires awake.

The mark would slow the game down even more. Perhaps the rule of maybe 3 handpasses before the ball is kicked would be a better one.

I'd introduce a mark but only when the ball is caught directly from a kick-out, it'd encourage high fielding and prevent a group of players waiting to swamp the player who has the ability to field the ball, when he lands. I'd also allow the ball to be picked off the ground, like the womens game - it defenitly keeps the game faster.

Any rule changes have to be easily implemented at every grade of the game and from my experience of referees at club level some of them have trouble spotting the ball been hopped twice or the number of steps a player takes before playing the ball, therefore something like limiting the number of hand-passes would be a non-starter
