MH Do you not think in Donegal there is a chance you are putting all your eggs into one basket , a mate from your neck of the woods who I work with doesn't want to meet the Dubs in league final (should we get there) by not holding back u21 you aren't exactly giving that team best chance of success either . So what in fact is the realistic aim ? Ulster / Sam only Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 30/03/2017 16:46:16 1973233 Link 0 |
way to go Ulster council, 3 day turnaround for the Ulster winners. Just start the competition earlier ,like the other provinces and this wouldn't be happening. Happened Cavan in 2011. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2792 - 31/03/2017 09:57:09 1973445 Link 0 |
Surely the AI Semi Final could be switched to the Sunday or even the following Saturday or even midweek. KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 31/03/2017 12:23:22 1973509 Link 3 |

Yep or they could have replayed the semis this weekend or had the Ulster final next weekend. Still a 3 day turnaround but same for both teams. This is all the Ulster councils doing.

It will be a nice little problem to have if we have to worry about a fixture conjestion. We could easily end up losing to Mayo this weekend and Cavan in the under 21's on wednesday and have no more games to worry about until championship. If and it's a big "if" we continue to get positive results then there will be pressure put on a number of our under 21 players. I think Rory Gallagher will start at least 4 of them (with more playing a part from off the bench) this weekend and he doesn't really have much option with injuries to Ryan McHugh, McGlynn, Caolan Ward and possibily Neil McGee. It wouldn't be so much the possibilty of injuries I would be concerned about (as you mentioned that can happen as easily in training) it's more the lack of preparation time they will have for games as a team together espcially the under 21 lads. It must be difficult for the management. And whatever team is successful in Ulster will be really up against it v Dublin in the all ireland semi final. Hard not to see a Kerry v Dublin final at this stage.

Well you couldn't have had it this weekend I know quite a few Donegal U21s are playing with Seniors, don't know about the others I don't see what the Ulster Council could have done about the heavy rainfall during the week or the replay in the previous round KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 31/03/2017 17:27:39 1973646 Link 1 |
They could have started the ulster u21 champinship earlier, so if there was rainfall or a replay it wouldn't be causing a fixture chaos. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2792 - 31/03/2017 18:00:16 1973657 Link 1 |
Is Connaught final not this weekend? We've been in this situation before too. If AI Semis were scheduled for later you can bet your house the Ulster games would be scheduled later too with no margin for error.

Cracking 2nd half. Thought Galway had done enough. Sligo might have the momentum for the extra time. mon (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 01/04/2017 19:35:30 1973891 Link 0 |

We have a few senior pannelists u21. U21 captain Michael Daly has been a regular starter on the senior team but missed last Sunday in Newry with the u21 provincial semi final the previous evening. Probably will not start tomorrow in Salthill given the u21 final this evening.

That was a really enjoyable game in Connacht. The semifinal between Galway and Kerry will have some wonderful forwards on display. Kerry though would seem to be a good bit more solid at the back. Soma (UK) - Posts: 2630 - 01/04/2017 21:36:53 1973943 Link 0 |
They did have extra time to do it but well done Galway and hard luck to a valiant Sligo who have never won a Connacht U 21 title and now never will.

Great display from Kerry, themselves and Donegal look like having a bright future, but at this grade you never know. Dubs have had better U21 sides, and looking at Munster/Ulster/Connacht.. can't see an AI win in 2017 jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20681 - 01/04/2017 21:40:49 1973947 Link 0 |
