Can someone tell me what the basis of Conor and Niall Kenny's transfers from Kildare to Tipperary? Was it allowed because one or both parents were from Tipperary?

Another Christy Ring outrage. Who cares about hurling at this level? The GAA don't, the Leinster Council don't and honestly most supporters don't either.

Kildare battled away a long time to win the Christy Ring, and they did in 2014 and it was brilliant. Their reward for that was to try and go out a weekend later and contest a play-off against Westmeath to get promoted. A week... after finally achieving what they had being working towards for years! The extra funding given to lower tier Liam McCarthy counties has by-passed the likes of Kildare and Meath.

So yeah, maybe the players have lost faith in throwing their lot in but I wouldn't blame them. Hurling outside the top tier counties is generally a fairly futile enterprise anyway. The only time anyone seems to get worked about it is when we have something like last year's scoring controversy or a few transfers. Otherwise we'll all happily play football, go to the football and watch the hurling on the telly.

From what I remember hearing at the time, I believe Conor Kenny moved to Borrisoleigh and transferred into the Borrisoleigh club... his father is from there and hurled with them. I would have to assume that Niall is also living in Tipperary now to be granted a transfer.

Initially, the Christy Ring was played through the summer with the final being played in Croke Park with a Liam McCarthy All-Ireland semi-final. Then they decided to play it on a Friday night in Tullamore and now they just get it out of the way ...

The Kildare players that decided to stick with their clubs are probably the sensible ones..

The irony is, the Liam McCarthy cup drags on all summer and doesn't become interesting until August while club players don't get a look in..

A happy medium is required

Its different now though. Win CR this year and you get entered into the All Ireland qualifiers and then get automatic promotion to the following years Leinster championship.
Bit annoyed it came in a year too late for Meath to have a crack at last years qualifiers.
But plenty of incentive to play for you county at CR level.

If it helps raise the standard of inter county hurling in Kildare along with giving Kildare fellas a chance of actually having a realistic shot at the Christy Ring then it's a worthwhile venture. Since Kildare last won the cup there's been good few retirements of key players and the standard of club hurling has gone as poor as I can ever remember it to be than these fellas should be given the opportunity.

Three of the household names of wexford hurlers of the 50's, the great nick o'donnell, mick morrisey and Ned wheeler were killkenny, laois and carlow men respectively!!!!
Poached no doubt??!!! Would the rachards have all Ireland medals without them? No!!!
Counties need help to make the break through and sow the seed for the hearts of the kids to grow... o'donnell couldn't make the killkenny team, then a new job found in enniscorthy and he became the best full back of his or any generation..

Didn't Celbridge almost beat Carrickshock in the Leinster final???
The standard of hurling with Kildare's underage teams seems to have improved a lot in recent years. What hasn't improved is Kildare support for hurling from their GAA fans. Increase the profile to make the next step.

Yes celbridge did indeed nearly beat carrickshock, they are the exception rather than the norm in club hurling in Kildare , the majority of the other senior clubs are miles behind, with both Naas and celbridge dominating at underage level with some of the big clubs being forced to amalgamate to field teams.

Johnny Byrne has also solely committed to the footballers this year after playing for both teams in 2016. Fergal Conway is one of the best club hurlers in the county but hasn't hurled for Kildare ever since he established himself on the football team. It's a shame for Kildare hurling that those guys aren't available along with the two Kennys and Gerry Keegan. Naas have some fine hurlers on the way up but they're all dual players and the chances are that most of them will opt for the big ball.

There is a lot being said on here about what should, and what shouldn't be allowed, fair enough, But what are the rules regarding a player playing for a different county? If Kildare haven't broken any, they've no case to answer.

PS: Great showing by their hurlers today against Offaly.

If it makes Kildare more competitive how bad ... There should be a rule minimum 10 native players for any of these county's .
Munster and other rugby provinces have plenty of non native players and no one opens their mouth ?

Wrong on every front no matter what grade/championship. Lads from you own county playin minor/21 should have a natural progression up to the inter county jersey. If you take that away from them by a quick fix of imports, you solve nothing, and ultimately create a rod for your own back by demotivation. External coaches if needed yes, but not players.

That said, Kildare are regrettably no particular oddity here. Dublin are on going masters at this in hurling notwithstanding both a massive investment and playing pool. "Ah sure they're working there...." That one misses the point in my view.

Well said passer by from carlow.....this notion of bringing in outside players only works for shortterm..it will do massive damage to kildare hurling long term.

Could hurling in Kildare get any worse at this point in time?

Correct and their grandfather and two grand uncles won three all Irelands in a row for Tipp.

Their dad won an all Ireland club title with Borris too.

Conor is having trials with the Tipp footballers at the minute.
