Clare Senior Hurlers 2017

Replying To Clareman:  "Lads I think we are all perhaps over analyzing the team a bit. As Eddie Brennan said, if Clare improved their shooting by 20% they would probably be Munster champions now.

The last 20 mins against Tipp were the best we hurled in a long time, we just went for it. We left ourselves open at the back at times but at least we were positive. We have created about 5 or 6 goal scoring chances in each of our 3 games this summer. Last year, we were barely creating one and scoring on average about 17/8 points a game, this year we hit 3.16, 1.20 and 3.16 again. Improve the shooting, and also get davy mac and hopefully a fully fit conor ryan back and our defence will improve.

We are yet to get the balance between power and skill right but we are getting there. Mgmt made mistakes but they also did well and some players have really improved this year. Galvin, Kelly and Podge are out of form, Conlon too and ultimately you cannot win with your top guns misfiring.

The Cork game was the big regret, that was very winnable, and would have been silverware with a semi final this Sunday knowing who you play in the final. The 20 mins after half time that day dictated our summer. Overall though, no complaints, we are top 6 side at present, and have work to do to get back to the big time in croker."
Watching the semifinal between Waterford and Cork yesterday, I could be concerned about how Clare would fare against either taam' s forward line. With the present setup and personnel we really would have been annihilated. Plans should begin immediately for the new season.Personally Iwould begin with a change in manager and management.Listening to Anhony Daly and his analysis of the game on TV last night I can only imagine how great it would be if he was the Clare manager.

Dalo has made errors too. in his time with Clare and Dublin he shipped big beatings. He also managed to lose to Antrim with Dublin. Its easy be a pundit and hindsight is a great thing.

He is a fine coach but lets not blame all this of the co managers, the players to start to deliver on the big day.

Dalo's time will come but Gerry and Donal deserve another year. This isnt premier league soccer where you ditch a manager after year. Keep the faith.

The reality for CLARE is that we will have to make the best of what we have, granted a great talented bunch. But what did they achieve last year? The value of home advantage made it possible to stay in the first division for this year. With all they had available what else did the management accomplish? And the big worry is than nothing exciting to com e up is on the horizon. So we must make the best of what we have for a few years. And judging by what we have seen last year the one thing we must change is the management. Iam sure they are nice very decent fellows, bur they have shown they cannot manage a senior team.Let them go,and let DONAL OG GO too.And bring on Daly!!!! Wait a few years and it will be too late!!

So the hurling final is now down to Galway and Waterford. And Paddy Power and 0thers have odds on Galway at 1/2 and Waterford at 2/1.My loyalty is with our neighbors,Galway, but with these generous odds I will take a little bet on Waterford.Their full team will be back.It could make the difference!!!!!!!!!

Isn't this what people were saying this time last year?

anyone see any new talent coming through from weekend matches, I thought Eoin Quirke and Colin Burke from Whitegate Ryan Taylor Clooney & Rory Hayes Wolfe Tones from weekend matches have some promise. Of Course the usual players stood out again but new talent is what we need

Panel needs new blood we are unlikely to see Bugs and Pat Donnellan in Clare set up next year I imagine we need a Jamie Barron type hurler to emerge.
I think its no wonder that Galway/Waterford are in All Ireland Final all tall physical ball winners in every line.

Anthony Daly has announced his resignation from his position with Limerick hurling.Word is that Dublin plan to try and bring him back as their senior hurling manager. It is time for C LARE to wake up and bring him back as their senior manager.Do not miss this opportunity or he may be unavailable for years. We need him now!!!!!!!

No Clareman, I M NOT. JUST a fanatical Clare supporter, who has the good of the county and its senior hurling team at heart, and tired of the results for the last few years despite all the talent available. We should be doing better, and with DALY I believe we would. The past few years resu lts have been pathetic!!!!!!!!!!

Who will win the Canon Hamilton cup this year
Clooney perhaps a small surprise to be in semi final, but are a very balanced team good goalie & backs they win enough ball at midfield and have now more options up front although Peter is still the main man so much more mature this year able to handle the flack
Clonlare will be favourites with their present day & past county men but Clooney will be very hard to beat

Bridge seem to have lots of big aces in their team will be a real local derby

Clare forwards line for next year id day

John Conlon Jamie Shanahan Peter Duggan
Shane O Donnel Aaron Cunningham Conor McGrath

I agree with most of that. Shanahan is a good hurler, can score and hits good ball into inside line. He also can drop in middle third if we wanted to bring conlon out and leave 2 inside. He doesnt have the pace for wing back, he hurled a lot of ball v tipp but noel mcgrath got 4 points of him. Deasy is also worth a shout, good in the air and good scorer and free taker, albeit at club level but i feel he deserves minimum 2 starts in NHL next spring. My front 6 for first game would be..

10.Peter Duggan 11. Jamie Shanahan 12.David Fitzgerald (best position imo)
13. Shane O Donnell 14. John Conlon 15. Conor McGrath

Id like that tried in the league with kelly and galvin in midfield. Conlon legs gone a small bit but great warrior and well able to score so put him in full. You have podge, shanagher, cunningham, cathal mac, reidy, ian galvin, malone, bobby duggan and possibly colin ryan, honan and tots as bench options. We have a huge depth in forwards but i our problems lie back the field.

For me, i would like to see this 5 get game time next year as a unit.

Morey, Dillon, Jason Mc,

Poc, Cleary, david mac

if conor ryan is fit, then he is an option in half backs . Jason Mac is fast, tough and can hurl but i feel his hurling can be ragged out the field, he could be a decent corner back.

Also, Loughnane should be tried in goals, he was been steady for the bridge and a good minor for Clare.

Just my 2 cents. Next year will be savage competitive with galway, tipp, waterford as the main 3 and cork not far off, then ourselves, wexford and limerick will fancy a crack at it plus never rule out kk and if dublin get a proper manager, they have big potential.

I hope they have the courage to tweak the system to give teams more games over the summer, at least on a trial basis.

there are loads of very good young hurlers out there now and they need to be playing 4 or 5 games in the summer.

Ah I'd question the talent available to Clare now. There Definately isn't as much there as he thought. There's question Marks over so many now and yere conveyor belt of good young talent has stalled. Ye are in big trouble guys and the management really need to up it aswell. Personally I still wouldn't fancy drawing Clare in the championship but there's no fear factor with this Clare team..Nice tidy hurlers but not physically imposing enough and a few real weak links..

Best of Luck to Brendan Bugler in the future. Great servant, good hurler and warrior. He won 2 All Irelands, 1 NHL and 2 All Stars. Not a bad return for any Clare hurler.

Absolute agree but he is right to go, saw in with Whitegate V Clooney and he looked like he was struggling a bit with the pace a warrior he was indeed
Paddy Donnellan is said to step away as well.

With this new format players wont last the top flight for too many years don't see why they had to mess with it nothing wrong with hurling i thought.

On a different note anyone rate Clooneys chances V The Bridge ?????????????

i think clooney will give them bags of it but hard to look past SMB. They have been good all year and when texted by ballyea and even more so by new-market, they found an extra gear. Fairytale is for Clooney but i think its bridge title to lose.
