Not really when rte own soccer pundits don't think the league of Ireland matters in irish sporting terms as they continuously state you cannot determine a players ability in it so therefore a manager must be judged the same in rte terms.
didn't dundalk win team of the year last year aswell for sound league and cup double yet dublin do back to back trebles and not even a sniff either year.

That's the only reason I see Joe returning, Andy has tried out 50 players so far, and hasn't even had a look at u21 squad. Id say I Joe will be anything it's a 16, more to be in dressing room, p O'Rourke is injured, our reserve keeper is out for year, and Joe has played in goals for club, and was considered a very good keeper in his younger days, so why not I guess. Wonder the craic in Lowndes house if the two brothers play each other in Leinster final?? One for dubs one for Meath."
Didn't know he played in goal for club.
why he not getting chance outfield anymore? Always thaught he was off the Meath panel very early for a guy with ability and strength. Worth coming in off bench at full forward in last 15 minutes of games. Similarly brian farrell from nober seemed young to be off panel along with cian ward who had ability

It was one of the stranger decisions, mod I think was trying to put down a marker, no one is safe etc, the only problem with that is when you bring in lads who aren't yet upto the quality of what they replacing. You get into a vicious cycle, the young lads dont have the confidence and dont have a older guy who has been around the block who can have a word in their ear. Meath actually became one of the youngest teams in country in very short time, even the bench was inexperienced. The likes of Joe, brian Farrell, cian, would be perfect to bring on with 15 mins to go . It also gives the supporters a lift . I think that's what Andy is trying to do,Joe probably will be a outfield sub as things go on, I heard Cian is also doing a bit of training (he is only 30 I think) so still has something to offer , and his younger brother looks the real deal too. It was a case of getting rid of lads too soon, and we paid a high price for it, Andy will use everyone and anything to turn that around. In one way its a master stroke .

gaa has generally been largely ignored when it comes to those awards sadly hill...and the dundalk thing was largely down to european exploits very little domestic

Don't get me wrong I was delighted for dundalk and I watch league of Ireland games and don't watch cross channel soccer but you can't have them saying the players aren't good enough cause they don't play across the sea yet turn around and reward them as best sports team in Ireland and then reward manager as best sports manager in Ireland, it's hypocritical really if we're being honest. As for Dublin I have come to realise we won't ever get anything off them awards as we have just won four league's four Leinsters and three all Ireland's in the last four years there's not much more you can do in gaa terms to get acknowledgement

they were rewarded because they performed way above their expected level i think is the point...its not like daryl horgan as good a player as he is was signed by some top club straight away

Last year they were hardly performing above expected levels winning the league and cup ? I would have had them favourites for both.
why should Daryl Horgan have to go anywhere to get recognition? He was playing great football regardless of club name or address.
to win every major competition two years running is a really hard thing to do in gaelic football and only one team in 25 years had managed to defend the all ireland never mind all three titles.

I had Team of The Year as being between Dublin, Dundalk and Connacht . I was leaning towards Connacht especially given Saturday's result . I was surprised The O Donavons got it . I agree The Dubs should have been acknowledged somewhere along the line . I also felt manager of the year was between Jim Gavin, Pat Lam and Stephen Kenny . Each of them were outstanding this year .

look at what iv said instead of putting words in my mouth...they performed above themselves in european competition...like it or not but the majority of people dont care about the league of ireland especially the media...on horgan im just highlighting the opinion those in soccer circles have of him..its not like he has suddenly gone up to elite level he was signed by a 2nd division club which is still a good move all the same

I'm not putting any words in your mouth
They won team of the year last year not this year
so therefore they were rewarded for their exploits domestically as it was this year they made a breakthrough in Europe.

Dundalk's achievements this year were absolutely extraordinary.

The LoI is the 40th ranked league in Europe and to get very close to Champions League group stage qualification as well as qualifying for and being competitive in the Europa League group stages was an astonishing achievement.

I actually think the achievement has been downplayed if anything. They've done it coming from quite a low base as well having almost been relegated a few seasons ago, they beat Waterford in a playoff where Waterford were actually favourites.

In all fairness connacht won what exactly the second competition in club rugby, whereas dublin defended both the national titles and their provincial title and went the entire year(competitively) unbeaten.
it's not fairytale of the year it's team of the year and I don't think the all blacks rugby team would have missed out on the team of the year in New Zealand just because people had them as favourites to win their competition and other games.

look seems to be misunderstood
I also enjoyed dundalks feats this year and hve watched them last few years play good football
the point I was tryin to make is regarding rte
they continuosly put down the league of ireland and refuse to want its top players for national team ahead of guys sitting on bench with postal address somewhere in uk. they always say you cannot rate the guys playing here yet reward them its just double standards is what im making out.

it is a poor league though hill like it or not the facts speak for themselves..in relation to uk players that situation has improved a lot..current side dominated by mostly irish born and bred players lots of whom played league of ireland at one stage or another

Hard to argue with Kenny and McGregor winning Manager and Sportsperson of the year.

Dundalk weren't even ranked in the top 350 teams in Europe at the start of the year, for the current season though they're up into the top 80. I don't think anybody would have argued with them getting team of the year - their achievements this year certainly outweighed anything they did last year but personally I'd have given it to the Paralympic cycling team - 2 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze. I know the athletics team brought back as many medals but you can't really compare the two sports in terms of team size and resources. I suppose the boxers had a strong case in 2012 and would have had a lot more media coverage than the cyclists and with them losing out that year to Donegal it was always going to be unlikely that the cyclists would win it this year.

Can't argue with McGregor either, imagine his fans would be of the more vocal and dedicated variety when it comes to things like this.

Ormo look away now.

Delighted the rugby team didn't win it - Connacht I can certainly understand being in the running but I don't think their achievement was on as big a scale as what Dundalk, the para-athletes or the O'Donovan's did.

Even being nominated was a bit of a joke. Finished 3rd in the 6 Nations, lost the summer series to South Africa and won a glorified friendly against a team ranked 5 places ahead of them in the world rankings. UCD bet Villareal in a friendly in 2011 and there was more than 5 teams ranked ahead of them in Ireland that year never mind the world...
